Antony talked up how happy he has been on loan at Real Betis but admits he does not know what his future holds as he is set to return to Manchester United.

The 25-year-old has been with the Spanish club for the second half of the season after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

The Brazil international has been an important part of Manuel Pellegrini’s side, making 25 appearances in all competitions and scoring nine goals.

Antony helped Real finish a creditable sixth in La Liga and reach the Europa Conference League final, where they faced Chelsea on Wednesday night in Wroclaw, Poland.

An upset was on the cards against the Premier League giants as Abde Ezzalzouli gave Betis a lead just nine minutes into the game and the Spanish side controlled the first half.

However, the Blues powered back into the contest after the hour-mark and goals from Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho and Moises Caicedo between 65 and 91 minutes gave Chelsea a 4-1 win.

It was a disappointing end to a memorable loan spell for Antony, who does not know what is next for him as he seems unlikely to have a future at Old Trafford, but remains under contract there until 2027.

Speaking to CBS Sports after the defeat in Poland, Antony said: ‘I don’t what will happen in the future, only God knows.

‘My work is playing and I’m doing that well. I have a lot of affection for Betis, for everyone but I have a contract with Man United and I don’t know what’s going to happen, only they know what’s happening.

‘Now I will go to the national team and then on holiday then we will see what happens in the future.

‘I’m very happy here, everyone knows that. I went to sleep and I woke up happy but I have a contract and I don’t know what’s going to happen.’

The former Ajax winger admitted that Real Betis suffered a dip in concentration after a brilliant start to the game on Wednesday night and it cost them.

‘Right now it’s difficult to say any words, we knew the importance of this final but we lost. Congratulations to Chelsea for the title,’ he said.

‘What’s important is the family we have, we’re together, we’re united in this difficult moment.

‘Concentration was our downfall. It was a good first half but in the second half, we didn’t have the ball.

‘We need to remember that it’s a game of 90 minutes and we didn’t concentrate for the entire game.’

Earlier in the season Amorim suggested why Antony was having so much more joy in Spain that he was in England, feeling that physicality of the league is chief among the factors.

‘When you play against any team in England, the physicality is there. If you don’t have physicality, you will struggle a lot,’ Amorim told TNT Sports.

‘Antony is so much better now in Spain. It’s [because of] a lot of factors but I guarantee you it’s physicality.’

Former Chelsea and France defender Frank Leboeuf was not impressed at all with Antony in the Conference League final and feels that he is not suited to face English teams.

‘Today I saw the ghost that was playing for Manchester United. The only thing he did was pick fights with Enzo Fernandez,’ the Frenchman told ESPN.

‘I was very disappointed with his game, I was expecting something more creative and dangerous.

‘Unfortunately for Betis we didn’t see the Antony who has been good during his loan.

‘That guy has to avoid English football, that’s it. Don’t play against English teams and don’t play for any football club in England because it doesn’t suit him.’
