The Texas Longhorns have been losing a large number of players to the transfer portal and the NFL Draft, and now another key player has been added to the list.
Parker Livingstone told ESPN that he intends to enter the transfer portal, Pete Thamel first reported. The news comes as a big surprise after comments he made just before the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl about another player’s departure.
Livingstone has not posted on his X account about the news, as of the time of this article’s publication.
Livingstone Has Three Years of Eligibility Remaining
Thamel wrote in a post on ESPN on the night of January 1: “Texas wide receiver Parker Livingstone intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he tells ESPN.”
The surprising news comes after Livingstone finished an impressive redshirt freshman season that included catching six receiving touchdowns, 516 yards receiving, and averaging 17.8 yards per catch.
Over the past season, announcers have frequently referred to the chemistry that Livinsgtone and Arch Manning had on the field, based in part on their being roommates.
Manning said in a September press event that being roommates helps them work well together, SI reported.
“Yeah, I think that definitely helps,” Manning said about being roommates. “I can tell him extra stuff. He can tell me what he thinks. We don’t always have to be at the facility to have those discussions.”
Livingstone Was Surprised By Moore’s Transfer Portal Decision
When Livingstone recently talked about DeAndre Moore Jr.’s decision to enter the transfer portal, he didn’t leave any hints that he would be doing the same. In fact, his comments seemed to indicate that he was going to be sticking around.
Less than 24 hours before the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, Livingstone spoke with the media about the upcoming game, SI reported, and said he was surprised that Moore wasn’t going straight to the NFL Draft.
“I thought he was going to go to the NFL,” he said. “But he’s a great player, a great leader. Hurts to have someone like that not in our room, but it just creates opportunities for us young guys to step up and take control of the room.”
The portal officially opens on January 2 and will be active until January 16.
A large number of Longhorns have indicated they’re leaving for the transfer portal, including Connor Stroh, C.J. Baxter, Aaron Butler, Jerrick Gibson, Santana Wilson, Trey Owens, Will Stone, Derek Williams Jr., Melvin Hills III, Liona Lefau, Rickey Stewart Jr., and DeAndre Moore Jr.
