Aryna Sabalenka Hints at Marriage With Boyfriend Georgios Frangulis

Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka is one win away from becoming the first back-to-back U.S. Open champion since Serena Williams in 2014.

After taking down Jessica Pegula, the highest-ranked American in the tournament, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals, she faces U.S. star Amanda Anisimova (No. 8) in the women’s singles finals on Saturday, September 6.

Sabalenka, ranked No. 1, has dropped just one set during the entire tournament in Queens, New York. Anisimova, however, has a 6-3 head-to-head record against the 27-year-old, including a win over Sabalenka during the 2025 Wimbledon semifinals.

“I gave her a lot of opportunities, and of course, she played incredible tennis, but I feel like I had my opportunities,” Sabalenka recalled of that defeat on September 4, per ESPN. “I didn’t use them, and I feel like the key for me is going to be just go out there, of course, like, obviously fight, but trust my decisions and go after my shots.”

Sabalenka started dating Frangulis, 36, following the death of her ex-boyfriend, Konstantin Koltsov, a former hockey star. Frangulis and Sabalenka first went public with their relationship in May 2024.

She posted a photo of the couple walking with their arms around each other in the rain on Instagram and wrote, “What my days off the court have been looking like recently 😉🫶.”

During Sabalenka’s third-round match against Leylah Fernandez at the U.S. Open, a fan proposed to his girlfriend in the crowd following the first set. After Sabalenka defeated Fernandez in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6, she spoke to reporters about the viral moment.

“I think it’s the first time that someone proposed during my match,” Sabalenka said. “It was a very sweet moment, but I was just trying not to start smiling, because it’s very cute and I believe they’re super happy right now.”

“I was just trying to keep focusing on my game, and it was great moment,” Sabalenka added. “And as I said on court, I wish them a happy marriage.”

When asked if the proposal gave “somebody else in the crowd got some ideas,” she sent a clear message on how she envisions her engagement happening. “I don’t want this kind of proposal,” she said of the public spectacle. “But I looked at my boyfriend. Yeah. No pressure.”

Frangulis, born in São Paulo, Brazil, is the CEO and co-founder of Oakberry. The couple mixes love and business as the acai bowl company counts Sabalenka as one of their superstar brand ambassadors.

In addition to being Sabalenka’s No. 1 fan, Frangulis is also a race car enthusiast. “I end up splitting my time between tennis matches, Oakberry, and racetracks,” he told The Greek Herald in February.

For Sabalenka, she’s grateful for Frangulis’ support. “There was a really tough period where I was really happy to have him by my side, always cheering me up, always making sure that we are doing some fun stuff,” she told People last year.

“But I make sure I kind of forget about tennis and focus on the good things and enjoy my life. Even when things are going wrong in my career. So yeah, he was my biggest support and yeah, really happy to have him by my side.”
