As Taylor Swift No-Shows, Travis Kelce Suffers Humiliation in Brazil

Just 10 days ago, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce asked the biggest pop star on the planet if she would spend the rest of her life with him, and she said yes. But 10 days later, Taylor Swift could not be bothered to fly to Brazil to support her soon-to-be husband as he opened what could be his final season in the NFL.

Of course, Swift couldn’t exactly be blamed for her no-show. The Chiefs’ opening game against the Los Angeles Chargers took place in São Paulo, Brazil, at least an 11 hour flight from the United States — even in Swift’s private luxury Dassault Falcon 7X jet — and the 35-year-old “Shake it Off” songstress is certainly busy overseeing her reported $1.6 billion business empire.

Swift Snubs Game 10 Days After Engagement

Still, her absence certainly disappointed Brazilian fans who were told by local TV that a “special guest” would be arriving in São Paulo for the game, leading to multiple “sightings” of Swift around the city of 23 million.

At the same time, Kelce probably could have used the support. Despite his statement before the game that he has been “just living life, living on a high,” since he started dating Swift, Friday’s game against the Chargers had to be a low point for the 35-year-old future Hall of Famer.

Kelce Hauls In Redemptive TD pass

Outside of a single, shining moment, the game was a complete disaster for Kelce. Before it was over and the defending AFC champion Chiefs had gone down to defeat 27-21, Kelce managed to get slapped in the face by an opponent and KO one of his own teammates while catching only two passes — and being targeted a mere four times by quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Kelce’s one moment of redemption came in the third quarter when he converted a 37 yard pass play into one of just two Chiefs touchdowns on the night.

Outside of that single play, Kelce set the tone for his evening on the third play of the game when, for some reason, he ran a crossing route over the middle as wide receiver Xavier Worthy — Kansas City’s 2024 first-round draft pick — ran the same route in the other direction.

A Collision, Then a Slap

Kelce brutally collided with Worthy, sending the second-year star receiver sprawling to the ground. The team later said that Worthy had injured his shoulder in the collision with Kelce and would undergo an MRI in Saturday to determine the extent of the damage.

Then, with Los Angeles leading 13-6 in midway through the third quarter, Kelce got his arms tangled with Chargers sixth-year defensive lineman Teair Tart — who responded by slapping Kelce in the face, or at least the face mask, sending the tight end sprawling back a couple of steps.

Tart Trolls Kelce Over Penalty

Tart was not ejected from the game for the blatant slap, and adding a further humiliation, later trolled Kelce on social media.

In the end, Kelce recorded only 47 yards on his two catches. But he was far from the only member of the Chiefs to have a rough night. Three-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Mahomes found himself thoroughly outplayed by Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, who threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns, completing 25 of 34 passes to finish with a passer rating of 131.7 compared to a modest 89.5 for Mahomes.
