The Las Vegas Raiders‘ frustrating 2025 NFL season continued with another loss, their fourth in a row, after falling to the Dallas Cowboys 33-16 on November 17 at Allegiant Stadium.
One of the main storylines to come out of this loss is the lack of a running game that the Silver and Black had against the Cowboys. Ashton Jeanty only had six carries for seven rushing yards as the team only recorded 27 rushing yards on the night.
With no playoffs this season, the Raiders must focus on giving their rookies experience to prepare them for 2026. Nonetheless, that wasn’t the case. After the loss, Jeanty spoke about the lack of touches on the ground from offensive coordinator Chip Kelly and the challenges that this season has brought him.
“I don’t call the plays,” Jeanty told reporters. “I mean, that’s up to the guys upstairs. So I just take whatever I get… Just continue to trust in my faith, trust in God and his plan for me. Obviously it’s not going the way I want it to, but it’s already written, and whatever is in the future will happen, but I just got to continue to keep going and finish the year strong.“
Raiders Face Criticism Over Ashton Jeanty
When the Raiders selected Jeanty with the sixth overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, many would assume that the rookie would have a more prominent role than he currently has.
After the latest questionable play-calling, Ryan McFadden didn’t hesitate to call out Las Vegas. Still, he also tried to understand why the Raiders went with this game plan against Dallas.
“Ashton Jeanty’s second carry of the night resulted in an 11-yard gain at the 13:29 mark of the second quarter,” McFadden wrote. “The rookie running back didn’t receive another handoff until the start of the third quarter. Jeanty had two carries in the first half and finished with six attempts for seven yards.
“The Raiders played from behind for the majority of the night, but their decision to abandon the run so early was questionable. That has been an issue for the majority of the season. At the same time, it might have been a sign of the Raiders’ lack of confidence in their banged-up offensive line.”
Raiders Offense Faces More Trouble
While the Raiders are done playing in primetime after their losses to the Denver Broncos and Cowboys, Las Vegas still have a challenging game in Week 12 as they’ll face the Cleveland Browns, who also have issues on offense. Nonetheless, Cleveland have one of the best defenses in the NFL and they will make life challenging for the Silver and Black.
If the Raiders believe that it will be ideal for Geno Smith to drop back and make 42 pass attempts, then it could be a long day for the veteran quarterback. With Myles Garrett on the other side for the Browns and the Raiders having a shaky offensive line, Smith could be under constant pressure when they welcome Cleveland to Las Vegas on November 23.
