Baker Mayfield’s Hilarious Joke About Josh Allen Steals Spotlight Ahead of Matchup

Th Bills will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, and Buffalo is looking to get on track after falling to the Miami Dolphins this past week.

Buffalo’s loss to Miami was somewhat unexpected, given the Dolphins‘ position in the season, having won only two games before the matchup. However, Miami got the better of the Bills, and it wasn’t much of a contest.

Now the Bills need to ensure they don’t lose to Tampa this weekend, but it will be challenging, as Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is one of the best in the NFL.

Mayfield has thrown for 2,192 yards and 16 touchdowns to only two interceptions this season. Mayfield is an elite thrower of the football, and he also took a funny shot at another elite thrower of the football.

Baker Mayfield Pokes Fun at Josh Allen

During Mayfield’s media availability on Wednesday, reporters inquired about Bills quarterback Josh Allen, and he provided an excellent response.

“I have to walkie-talkie to him because I can’t really have a face-to-face conversation with him because he’s so tall,” Mayfield said, via Tampa Bay Times Rick Stroud.

Mayfield isn’t wrong that Allen is pretty tall. Allen stands at 6-foot-5, while Mayfield is only listed at 6-foot-1.

The two quarterbacks will always be linked to each other since they were both drafted in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Mayfield was taken No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Browns while the Bills drafted Allen at No. 7.

Allen Could’ve Gone No. 1 in the 2018 NFL Draft

Many believed that Allen would be the top pick in the NFL Draft, going No. 1 overall to Cleveland. ESPN’s draft analyst, Mel Kiper Jr., had projected Allen to Cleveland until something shifted at the last minute.

“Okay, so I remember a draft a few years ago (and) I had done it the night before. I walked down for breakfast and I had Josh Allen locked in to the Cleveland Browns,” Kiper said in a story published in April 2024, via A To Z Sports, Adam Holt. “It was no question Josh Allen was going No. 1. I figure I got that right. I get down to breakfast, and I’m told that it’s going to be Baker Mayfield, and it’s like, okay. That’s how you feel about mocks, guys.”

Cleveland should’ve taken Allen because Mayfield was only with the Browns for four seasons. The Browns decided to move on from Mayfield after trading for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson in March 2022.

Watson hasn’t played well in his first four seasons in Cleveland and is recovering from an Achilles injury he suffered in the previous season.

On the other hand, Mayfield has settled into a new home in Tampa, leading the Buccaneers to two playoff appearances in his first two seasons and currently sitting atop the NFC South this season.

It will be interesting to see Mayfield and Allen meet up in Buffalo on Sunday, and both quarterbacks are desperate for a win after the Bills lost last week, and the Buccaneers lost to the New England Patriots at home.
