Barkley and Bigsby Steamroll the Giants; Hurts near perfect with 4 TDs in a Statement Win to Move Eagles to 6-2 at the Bye

The Philadelphia Eagles punched their ticket to their sixth win of the season after another statement win behind a suffocating defensive front and a revived ground game that finally got Saquon Barkley rolling.  On the second play from scrimmage Barkley busted a homerun for 65 yards to give the Eagles an early 7-0 lead.  Barkley finished with 150 yards on 14 carries.  It was his first 100 yard game since the NFC Championship game versus the Washington Commanders last January.  Philadelphia controlled the clock, the tempo, and the trenches in a 38-20 win that looked like vintage Eagles football again.

The Basics: Eagles vs. Giants

For the first time since 2013 the Birds had two running backs go over 100 yards in the same game.  Shady McCoy and Bryce Brown did it back then.  Today it was Barkley and Tank Bigsby combining for 254 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown and as a team the Eagles rolled over the Giants defensive line for 276 rushing yards on 33 carries, an average of 8.4 yards per carry.

Key Play of the Game

Despite the disparity in the final score it was a much closer game most of the way.  With the Birds leading by just 11 to start the fourth quarter,  Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts took a 16 yard loss on a sack pinning the Birds back at their own 40 yard line facing a 2nd and 26.  On the ensuing play Bigsby broke one off for 29 yards to give the Birds a new set of down at the Giants 40 yard line.  Four plays later Hurts hit Dallas Goedert on a beautiful play call by offensvie coordinator Kevin Patullo for his second touchdown grab of the game, on National Tight Ends Day, to give the Eagles a little cushion, 31-17.

Hurts had one of his usual classic games, administering death by a thousand cuts to the Giants defense, slowly and methodically carving their secondary up with a four-touchdown performance on 15/20 day with no picks and another whopping QB rating of 141.5

    Ut-Oh Moment of the Game

On the last play of the third quarter Barkley broke off a 28 yard run and went out of bounds by Giants‘ saftey Dane Belton.  He limped back to his team’s sideline afterwards.  He visited the blue tent briefly and was listed as quastionable for the remainder of the game with a groin issue.  The team said he would have been put back in the game only if needed but the oucome appeared to be academic at that point so he did not return.  Barkley did say afterwards that he is fine and that his groin issue doesn’t seem to concern him.

Buzz Kill Moment of the Game

Early in the second quarter Giants star rookie running back Cam Skattabo, one of the favorites for NFL Rookie of the year left the game on a cart as he suffered a dislocated ankle.  He left to a standing ovation by the Eagles faithful.  Skattabo burned the Birds for 3 touchdowns back on October 9 and scored on a touchdown reception in the first quarter to tie today’s game at 7-7.  He will is currently be at a local hospital.

Lucky Stat of the Game

The Eagles are now a perfect 5-0 when they wear their kelly green throwback uniforms and may I say they look totally bad-ass doing it.
