Bears Announce Exciting News Just Before Packers Game

The Chicago Bears are having an incredible season, and it’s far from over, so there are plenty of chances to see this team with a 9-3 record continue to shine. Just when it seemed like things couldn’t get better, on Wednesday, December 3, the Bears announced news that made this week even better.

The Bears had a mammoth game on Friday, November 28, against the Philadelphia Eagles. For that game, Chicago rushed for 281 yards and two touchdowns, according to the Bears’ official website, and the defense had two takeaways and only allowed for two touchdowns in 24-15 win over the Eagles. Multiple Chicago Bears players stepped up to the challenge, and Kyle Monangai, who had 130 yards on 22 carries, and D’Andre Swift, with 125 yards on 18 attempts, became the first duo in Bears history to each rush for at least 100 yards in a game since Walter Payton and Matt Suhey back on Nov. 10, 1985.

“Just really proud of everybody involved,” first-year head coach Ben Johnson said after the game. “Short week, we really haven’t had one of those yet as a team. I thought the coaching staff did a great job putting a sound plan together.”

He added, “We knew it was going to be a race trying to get everything in and kind of harping on the guys that the details were going to be the difference here this week and the team that made the least number of mistakes was probably going to win this game. Fortunately for us, we felt like that fell in our favor.”

A Huge Honor for a Chicago Bears Favorite

On Wednesday, December 3, Swift has been named the FedEx Ground Player of the Week. Together, Swift and Monangai rushed for 255 yards, according to NFL research. Swift, who has clocked 774 rushing yards and five touchdowns in 11 games this season, is a major part of the Chicago Bears’ 9-3 record.

This is a first for Swift, too, when it comes to winning the FedEx Ground Player of the Week award, and it’s the first time a Bears player has gotten the honor since Khalil Herbert in Week 16 of the 2023 season. Second-year quarterback Caleb Williams scored the FedEx Air Player of the Week back in Week 3 after his performance against the Dallas Cowboys.

Adding to the drama of this weekend’s Bears and Packers game, the FedEx Air Player of the Week was Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love.

Caleb Williams Talks Chicago Bears Win Over Eagles

Even thought it was Swift’s week to be honored, Williams had a stellar game against the Eagles, too. After the Bears’ win on Friday, Williams talked about it being fun to play with the windy conditions at the game.

“That’s the fun part about playing QB,” Williams said. “It’s dealing with the conditions and then finding ways to calculate where you need to put the ball and how much air [to put under it], especially when you have such weird gusts that we had today.”

He added, “It would be no wind and then random points it would be super heavy gusts. Cole ran a great route. They ended up dropping him. I just kind of saw him flash. It was something that we trusted. I saw a defender trying to catch up to him. I just wanted to lay it in there, let the wind push it back to him and Cole made a great catch.”
