Who doesn’t love a good reunion?
Now on their bye week, the Chicago Bears are desperate to find a spark in the running game. Chicago has been entirely unimpressive on the ground so far through four games (409 rushing yards on 108 attempts, averaging 3.8 yards per carry).
Lead back D’Andre Swift’s 56 carries for 187 yards (3.3 yards per rush) haven’t helped quarterback Caleb Williams all that much, and the only other running back on the roster to get carries so far this season is seventh-round rookie Kyle Monangai.
It wouldn’t be a splash move, but the Bears should consider signing Raheem Mostert. Paired with Swift, Mostert would give the Bears a much better backfield than they currently have now.

We’re not the only ones who think Mostert might be a decent fit in Chicago. Brendan Sugrue of USA Today’s Bears Wire also listed the veteran RB as a possibility for the Bears.
Assuming the Bears continue to hover around .500, it’s likely general manager Ryan Poles will make a trade to bolster the roster, ” Sugrue wrote on October 4. “That could be a running back, where players like Alvin Kamara, Raheem Mostert, or Jerome Ford could be available. I expect the Bears to acquire someone, even if it’s not a marquee name.
For those with good memories, there’s also a connective thread: Mostert already passed through Halas Hall in 2016. The Bears signed him to their practice squad in September of that year, and promoted him Sto the active roster. He saw brief action before he was ultimately released.
A journeyman over his 11 seasons in the league, the Raiders signed Mostert to a one-year deal with a cap hit around $1.56 million. With first-round pick Ashton Jeanty getting the bulk of the team’s carries, Vegas might be persuaded to move Mostert for a late Day-3 pick.
Chicago’s defense just got a look at Mostert’s explosiveness up close, too. In the Bears’ Week 4 win over the Raiders, Mostert carried the ball just four times, but he gained 62 yards (that’s a whopping 15.5 yards per carry), also hauling in a pass for 11 yards.
Mostert Is Best-Known for His Playoff Heroics
San Francisco 49ers fans remember Mostert for his 220-yard, four-touchdown performance in the 2019 NFC Championship vs. the Green Bay Packers. Now 33, Mostert has spent time with the Bears, Niners, Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.
He’s no longer in his prime, but he’s not far removed from his best season, either. In 2023, Mostert posted a career-best 1,012 rushing yards and led the league with 21 touchdowns from scrimmage (18 of those were on the ground). His usage dipped behind De’Von Achane in 2024, but his efficiency remained.
Mostert’s history (his Bears cameo included), standout moments (the 2019 title game, his 2023 performance) suggest he can still be a difference-maker in the right situations. If Ben Johnson and the Bears don’t want to break the bank adding a running back, a player like Mostert would be a perfect addition.
