Week 1 of the 2025 NFL regular season is getting nearer by the minute, and the Chicago Bears face a tough challenge out of the gate when they host their NFC North rivals, the Minnesota Vikings, on Sunday night.
The Bears may be getting a big-time break, though, as Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison may not be able to play. Addison is currently dealing with legal trouble stemming from a DUI arrest in Los Angeles in July of 2024. He’s currently involved in a jury trial, which began on July 15, 2025.
If convicted, he could face a three-game suspension, in line with standard NFL policy. His situation puts a cloud of uncertainty over Minnesota, as the team awaits clarity on whether one of its key offensive pieces will be available at the start of the year.
Considering how well he has played against them recently, the Bears have to be secretly hoping they don’t see him Week 1.
Addison Has Been Excellent WR2 for the Vikings
Selected 23rd overall by the Vikings in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Addison wasted no time making an impact, starting 14 of 17 games as a rookie and racking up 70 receptions for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns. His ability to stretch the field was evident all year long, as five of his touchdowns came on plays of 35 yards or more, tying him for the second-most in the NFL behind only Tyreek Hill.
Addison was one of just five rookies since 2000 to record at least 900 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in a season, earning him a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team. His instant chemistry in the Vikings’ offense solidified him as one of the league’s most promising young wideouts.
In his second season, Addison continued to produce at a high level. Over 15 games, he posted 63 catches for 875 yards (that’s 13.9 yards per reception), also hauling in nine TDs.
He remained a reliable deep threat and showed up in critical moments, including a standout game against the Bears — more on that in a minute. Through two seasons, he has amassed 133 catches for 1,786 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Heading into the 2025 season, Addison remains a central figure in the Vikings’ offensive plans, forming a dynamic duo with fellow wideout Justin Jefferson. The team’s wide receiver room, coached by Keenan McCardell, has fostered a competitive environment that has allowed both stars to thrive, and they’re an handful for any secondary they face. Without Addison, the bulk of the pressure will be on Jefferson.
Jordan Addison Absolutely Torched the Chicago Bears in 2024

GettyIf Jordan Addison doesn’t play Week 1, the Chicago Bears will catch a huge break.
As a rookie in 2023, Addison had nine catches for 67 yards and a TD in two games against the Bears. He was much better against Chicago in 2024.
Addison had the best game of young career — at least so far — against the Bears Week 12 when he had eight receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown in a dramatic 30-27 overtime win for the Vikings. He had seven catches for 63 yards against Chicago in Minnesota’s Week 15 win.
The Bears have a strong secondary led by Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon and Tyrique Stevenson, but any time you don’t have to face a talent like Addison, it’s a stroke of good fortune, and in a division as tough as the NFC North, the Bears can use all the breaks they can get.
