Bears Named Perfect Trade Fit for Former Packers Standout

Now sitting at 3-2, the Chicago Bears have found themselves on the right side of the win column, which itself is a feat considering how banged up the team has been to start the season.

Chicago’s cornerbacks room has been particularly decimated. All-Pro cover corner Jaylon Johnson is out indefinitely with a groin injury, reliable depth piece Terell Smith is out for the year, and Tyrique Stevenson has been pushed into the CB1 role. Kyler Gordon is back in the nickel after his own injury issues, but backup Nahshon Wright has been inconsistent, as has backup slot corner Nick McCloud.

One name recently brought up as a potential solution at CB for the Bears is Rasul Douglas, who’s currently down in Miami playing for the Dolphins. They’d have to trade for him, but Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus thinks the Bears would be a good fit for Douglas.

Let’s discuss.

PFF Thinks Chicago Bears Are Top Trade Possibility for Veteran CB Rasul Douglas

GettyShould the Chicago Bears be interested in a trade for veteran CB Rasul Douglas?

“Douglas didn’t sign with the Dolphins until late August, which was surprising given his pedigree,” Locker wrote on October 13. “As it turns out, there are likely a myriad of teams that would have liked to have added Douglas earlier based on his play in 2025.”

“Douglas has posted a 77.9 PFF coverage grade with three pass breakups across 161 coverage snaps, looking more like the standout player we saw in 2023. At 1-5 and with persistent locker room turmoil, Miami will likely have a “for sale” sign up. The 30-year-old rental could help the Falcons — who hold the worst PFF coverage grade at cornerback (47.1) — or the Bears, who are without Jaylon Johnson indefinitely.”

Douglas has played for the Eagles, Panthers, Packers, Bills and now the Dolphins. He won a Super Bowl his rookie year with Philadelphia, and he’s had a solid career after that. Bears fans most likely remember Douglas most for his days with the rival Packers, where he played in 36 games, starting 28.

In Green Bay, he was one of the league’s most opportunistic defensive backs, hauling in nine interceptions over the 2021 and 2022 seasons, also scoring twice on defense. In 2023, after a midseason trade to Buffalo, he added four more picks and a TD.

Douglas Has a Lot to Offer Despite Getting Older

Douglas is still playing at a relatively high level, and he could certainly help the Bears in the secondary. Through six games with Miami this year (four starts), he has 26 total tackles (one for loss), four pass breakups, 1.0 sacks, two QB hits and a forced fumble.

He’s a one-year deal with Miami, signed in late August, which means his salary is manageable and his contract wouldn’t handcuff the Bears in 2026. He has a cap hit just over $1.5 million, which is incredibly affordable considering how well he’s playing.

With the trade deadline set for November 5, given his age and contract status, Douglas likely wouldn’t cost the Bears more than a mid- to late-round pick in a trade.

We think PFF might be on to something here. Douglas would be a definite upgrade over Wright, and he could play opposite Stevenson on the outside until Johnson returns. If Bears GM Ryan Poles could — and should — at least make a call to check on the veteran corner’s availability.
