The Chicago Bears don’t need to make a move ahead of the looming NFL trade deadline, but there may be a solid one there for them if they so choose.
Wide receiver DJ Moore has been frustrated with the direction of the offense, or at least his role in it, through six games thus far this season. Second-year wideout Rome Odunze has surpassed Moore in terms of targets, catches, receiving yards and touchdowns, while head coach Ben Johnson used his first- and second-round picks in 2025 to add pass-catchers for quarterback Caleb Williams.
Moore recently signed a four-year contract extension worth $110 million, so while he’s still a good player on the right side of 30, Chicago could probably put his $28.5 million salary cap hit in 2026 to better use — say on an edge rusher or left tackle, whichever position the team doesn’t draft in the first round next April.
The question really boils down to what the Bears could get for Moore, and if that return is worth doing a deal. Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic asserted on Friday, October 24, that Moore would probably go for a fourth-round pick, which Fishbain implied isn’t enough to make the juice worth the squeeze.
But if Chicago could find a trade partner in serious need of a playmaker at the receiver position and properly motivated to overpay slightly to acquire that player, then the Bears might be in business.
Enter the Buffalo Bills.
Bill Perfect Trade Partner for DJ Moore, as Josh Allen Needs High-End Wide Receiver Target

Buffalo played its way into the AFC Championship Game last postseason, falling just short against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Bills need more help than just at the wideout spot, as they are weak in the secondary and statistically among the worst run defenses in the league.
But Buffalo built this iteration of its team on offense, namely on the back of QB and reigning MVP Josh Allen. Even despite the Chiefs’ current ascendance as they’ve come back to health on offense, the conference looks open outside of a couple other teams. Buffalo has a shot to play its way to a Super Bowl, thus the franchise is a strong candidate to buy ahead of the deadline.
“In a perfect world, the Bills should be aggressive. They arguably need help at both cornerback and safety, as well as a wide receiver for Josh Allen,” Eric Edholm of NFL.com wrote Friday. “The WR need can’t be overlooked; their advanced metrics are pretty blah across the board at that position, and the offense hasn’t topped 245 net pass yards since Week 1.”
Bills Traded Third-Round Pick to Browns for Wide Receiver Amari Cooper Last Season

Buffalo traded the Cleveland Browns a third-round selection and a pick swap that saw the Bills give up a seventh-rounder in exchange for a sixth to secure wideout Amari Cooper ahead of last year’s deadline.
Moore, 28, doesn’t have the resumé that Cooper did, but he isn’t far off with four 1,000-yard receiving seasons to his credit. Buffalo needs a finishing piece on offense, and Moore fits the bill perfectly.
He also makes sense for the Bills in the longterm, as Moore still has plenty of gas in the tank and is under contract through 2029. If the Bears can coax a third-round pick out of Buffalo for Moore, it’s a deal on which Chicago should move.
