The Chicago Bears will have an opportunity to redeem themselves against the Washington Commanders on Monday night. Following a loss to the Commanders a year ago, in which Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson was taunting Commanders’ fans, before wide receiver Noah Brown caught a Hail Mary to win the game, there are plenty of questions about how things might go this time around.Â
However, if one thing has been true over the past year for the Bears, it’s that plenty has changed since. Not only does he understand that he can’t do things like that, but they brought in an entirely new coaching staff and many established players.Â
“You’d have to talk to those guys about it,” head coach Ben Johnson said Tuesday of players on the team last year, per SIâs Gene Chamberlain. “We’re a new team and we’re just focused on winning this game this week.”
D.J. Moore Talks Commanders Incident From Last Year
For an NFL team, it’s easy to flush things right down the drain whenever a bad thing happens. However, that incident was one that the Chicago Bears had to deal with for the rest of the year. It was inexcusable from top to bottom, and it really went to show how bad things were for the Bears at the time. Now, that doesn’t seem to be too much of an issue, according to multiple players on the roster.Â
“I think everybody’s just on the hush now and just ready to attack this game and not let that happen again,” receiver D.J. Moore said.
“Honestly, there hasn’t been a ton of talk as far as like what happened last season on. I don’t think like anyone is really focused on that except for like going out there and winning. I wasn’t even there last year so to me it’s like go with everybody and change the narrative.”Â
Johnson also believes Stevenson has improved his game since then, which is a fair assessment considering he hasn’t played poorly this year.Â
“I think Tyrique’s gotten better each game,” Johnson said. “Prior to the bye week, that was his best game against the Raiders to date, and I think he’s doing a good job of compartmentalizing everything and hitting the reset button going into each week.”
Can the Bears Pull Off a Big Win Over the Commanders?
The Chicago Bears have shown some promising signs throughout the year, so the Washington Commanders will have to be careful in this one. If the Commanders don’t come out playing their best football, there’s a very good chance they’ll walk out of MNF with a loss.
Chicago are coming off a bye week, which can hurt teams at times, especially this early in the season. However, it sounds like the team used this week to refresh and set its sights on beating a good Commandersâ team.
âThe bye weekâs coming at a good time and weâre really going to be able to take a good look at ourselves and do a little soul-searching,â head coach Johnson said, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
