The Cincinnati Bengals have ruled out wide receiver Tee Higgins for Sunday’s divisional showdown with the Baltimore Ravens. Higgins has re-entered concussion protocol following the game against Buffalo in week 14.
Higgins was initially concussed in week 12 against the Patriots, when he came down hard after leaping up to attempt a catch deep downfield. He missed week 13 when Cincy played Baltimore for the first time this season, then returned against Buffalo this past weekend.
Higgins took a couple of hits to the head against the Bills however, which forced him back into concussion protocol. He was a limited participant on Wednesday and Thursday, but according to Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, he will be out for Sunday’s game against the Ravens.
Higgins was having a great game against Buffalo in the snow before he re-entered concussion protocol. He had caught six passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns.
On the season, Higgins has 46 receptions for 667 yards and nine touchdowns, the most on the team.
Bengals Playing For Pride For Remainder Of Season
Joe Burrow’s early injury this season put a halt on any plans Cincinnati had of making another deep playoff run like they did in Burrow’s second season. Now, despite his return giving the Bengals offense a huge boost, Cincy is 4-9, and barring something unprecedented happening, they’ll be watching playoff football from home this January.
Burrow took to the stage this week to talk about his focus for the final four games of the season.
âCertainly doesnât change my desire to win,â Burrow said. âIf I want to keep doing this, I have to have fun doing it. Iâve been through a lot, and if itâs not fun, what am I doing it for? Thatâs the mindset Iâm trying to bring to the table.â
Burrow, when healthy, has proven to the NFL that he is one of the best quarterbacks in the world, and the Bengals typically play much, much better when he is on the field. But Burrow has had his fair share of injury troubles in his six year NFL career.
Before this most recent turf toe injury, Burrow missed long stretches of time with injuries in his knee and hand. He missed the final seven games of his rookie season due to an ACL tear.
Now that he’s healthy again, the final four games come down to Burrow’s love of the game, and maybe a chance to continue to prove himself heading into next season when he hopes to play all 17 games.
Bengals Can Play Spoiler Against Baltimore This Week
Although Cincinnati is all but eliminated from playoff contention, the Baltimore Ravens are most assuredly not. At 6-7, Baltimore needs this win against Cincy to get back to 7-7 and be tied with the Steelers if they lose to the Dolphins on Monday.
A Cincinnati win this week puts the Ravens on the brink of playoff elimination, especially if Pittsburgh defeats Miami.
In week 16, the Bengals can also spoil any dwindling hopes the Dolphins have of making the playoffs as they’ve won four straight and could sneak in with a few more wins.
