Bengals’ Zac Taylor Opens Up About His Job Security

The Cincinnati Bengals have three games left this season, and are officially eliminated from playoff contention.

It has been a disappointing year, seemingly mostly because they were without QB Joe Burrow for most of the season to this point. Burrow missed nine games of the 2025 season due to a Grade 3 turf toe injury. His return came on Thanksgiving against the Ravens.

Though arguably meaningless, Joe Burrow will start the final three games of the 2025 season. Head coach Zac Taylor confirmed the obvious, stating that they still “want to win”, regardless of their current standing.

Earlier today, Zac Taylor discussed a deeper topic; his job security going forward as head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Bengals’ Head Coach Zac Taylor Gets Honest About His Future

Sports Illustrated‘s Russell Heltman articulated Taylor’s thoughts on his status as head coach in the midst of a three-year playoff drought.

“I don’t think it really matters. I coach every day like it’s my last, and I’ve been through years in 2019 and 2020 that were literally you coach every game thinking it could be your last game, and I’ve seen how we responded after that…so this year is no different.

For me, it’s going through adversity coaching every game in this profession like it could be your last one.”

This reads as the obvious answer from a head coach who knows the future of his job is a bit murky. The Bengals did make a Super Bowl appearance in the 2021 NFL Playoffs under Taylor. They followed that up with a conference championship appearance in 2022.

That’s the tricky part about all of it; the Bengals were an AFC powerhouse semi-recently under Zac Taylor with a lot of the same core that they currently have.

Zac Taylor Emphasizes Confidence in Himself and His Staff

Taylor continued by emphasizing his belief in what he and his staff have built in Cincinnati:

“I have a lot of confidence in our staff that we’re going to get this turned around, and we’re going to finish the season really strong and put together a great plan to get back to those championships I mentioned. So very confident we can do all that.”

Zac Taylor wouldn’t be crazy to have a lot of confidence in what the Bengals can do gong forward. A large issue for their lack of success in recent years is the injury history of Joe Burrow. The superstar signal caller has missed 16 games since the beginning of the 2023 season.

Until the Bengals can get back to their winning ways of the early 2020’s, Taylor’s job security will remain in question. Of course, he won’t give it any attention during meetings with the press, but he has to know that it is something that is being talked about in Cinci.
