Just hours after the embarrassing public release of a leaked audio recording that revealed the private dynamic between legendary, 73-year-old coach Bill Belichick and his 24-year-old former cheerleader girlfriend Jordon Hudson, Belichick’s North Carolina Tar Heels suffered their most excruciating defeat of their humiliating season.
UNC came within minutes of potentially securing their first victory of the season against a Power 5 conference opponent, only to see wide receiver Nathan Leacock fumble away the go-ahead touchdown with 3:48 on the clock in the Tar Heels’ Friday night road game against the Cal Golden Bears.
Hudson has been spotted on the sidelines at most every UNC game so far this season, and this one was no exception. Hudson made the cross-country trip from Chapel Hill to California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley. But perhaps mindful of the earlier audio leak, Hudson appeared to take pains to avoid cameras as she took her place on the sideline.
Hudson Attempts to Avoid Photographers
But she was not entirely successful. Videographer Emily Van Buskirk was recording the action from the sideline when, Van Buskirk wrote on social media, “she walked right through my video lol.”
According to Van Buskirk, Hudson “did NOT want to be photographed.”
Hudson appeared to be clad in “a yellow and grey trench coat and thigh-high navy blue boots,” according to a description by the Daily Mail newspaper.

Awkward Hot Mic Recording Leaked
Whether Hudson was genuinely seeking to avoid attention in the aftermath of the audio recording leak, made public by investigative sports journalist Pablo Torre, cannot be known for sure. But what is certain is that Hudson has not been especially camera shy in any of her previous sideline appearances, photographed frequently there.
Also unclear is why the coach’s girlfriend seems to have a permanent invitation to watch UNC games from the sideline alongside the team, when she has no official role with the North Carolina football program or athletic department.
What was on the awkward “hot mic” recording leaked by Torre?
Heavy.com reporter Evan Cormier described the contents on Friday.
“Investigative journalist Pablo Torre acquired an exclusive leaked video that showcased just how toxic this relationship has become,” Cormier wrote. “In a segment in which the coach was mic’d up for a football show, his girlfriend is heard questioning he and the host on their football terminology, criticizing the production company, and even going after one employee in particular saying ‘they cant do s***.’”
Tar Heels Almost Win One This Time
The Golden Bears were the fourth Power 5 opponent faced by UNC and Belichick, in his debut college season after coaching the New England Patriots to nine Super Bowls and six championships in 24 years. The Tar Heels have lost them all, but at least Friday’s loss at Cal was a close one.
The Tar Heels fell 21-18 after Leacock’s fumble — forced by Cal defender Brent Austin who punched the ball out of the wide receiver’s arms at the two-yard line, then recovered in the end zone for a touchback.
In UNC’s other Power 5 games, Belichick’s team was blown out by Big 12 opponents TCU (48-14) and UCF (34-9), as well as another ACC foe, the Clemson Tigers, 38-10.
