Bills’ 5-Year Veteran WR Is In Danger Of Missing Out On 53-Man Roster

This past offseason, the Buffalo Bills went all in on adding to their receiver core. The team signed three receivers who have a combined 13 seasons of NFL experience.

The Bills Added WRs This Offseason

Buffalo signed Los Angeles Chargers receiver Josh Palmer, who has played four years in the NFL. The team also signed former New York Jets and Cleveland Browns receiver Elijah Moore and five-year veteran Laviska Shenault, who just played for his fourth NFL team, the Chargers.

Palmer will be a lock to make the 53-man roster since he signed a three-year deal, but Moore and Shenault will be fighting for roster spots.

Both Moore and Shenault have followed a similar NFL path through their first handful of seasons.

Moore and Shenault were both highly thought of coming into the league, but have been unable to find a home where they can succeed.

This season will be the last chance for Moore, who is on team three, and Shenault, who is now on his fifth team, to try to stay in the NFL.

Buffalo Could Move On From Laviska Shenault

Moore or Shenault will likely make the active roster, not both, so the two will compete against each other in training camp. Enzo Flojo from ClutchPoints thinks Shenault will need to have a good camp or could be finding a new home.

“Laviska Shenault’s career has been searching for a second act. Once a promising receiver with Jacksonville, he’s been used sparingly in recent years. He was brought to Buffalo on a one-year contract as a potential returner and offensive weapon,” Flojo wrote. That said, the Bills’ wide receiver room is one of the most competitive in the league. The addition of Elijah Moore in free agency and the presence of Curtis Samuel have left Shenault in a precarious position. His appeal lies in his speed and ability to handle return duties. Still, he’s never returned a punt in an NFL game, and the team already has specialists for those roles.”

“For Shenault to survive final cuts, he’ll need to make himself indispensable on special teams. He also needs to flash enough versatility to convince offensive coordinator Joe Brady that there’s a role for him beyond the crowded depth chart. Otherwise, this could be the end of the line in Buffalo.”

Shenault Will Be Easy To Move On From

Shenault is only on a one-year, one-million-dollar contract, so parting ways with him won’t be that hard to do.

The Bills brought in several veteran players this offseason to assemble the best possible roster and attempt to win their first Super Bowl in franchise history.

All of this competition between veteran players should bring out the best in each athlete, and hopefully, it will translate throughout the season.

The Bills will host the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football Week 1 of the regular season, and it will be interesting to see if Moore or Shenault are on the active roster or neither of them.
