On Friday night, the Buffalo Bills held their Blue and Red practice at Highmark Stadium. Instead of practicing at St John’s Fisher’s College, where the Bills typically have training camp, they held it at their stadium.
It’s a good opportunity for fans to see the 2025 Bills for the first time and what they can expect for the regular season. One player Buffalo fans were hype to see was quarterback Josh Allen. The 29-year-old quarterback is coming off winning his first National League Most Valuable Player award. Allen came out wearing the new Bills red helmet, which the team will wear in Week 18 against the New York Jets. Unfortunately, Allen didn’t practice at all and just watched from the sidelines.
Even though Allen didn’t practice, the players he will be throwing to on Sundays did. One of the players was wide receiver Khalil Shakir. The 25-year-old playmaker had himself an offseason, cashing in on a four-year, $53 million contract.
Khalil Shakir Gets Injured in Bills Practice
Last season, Shakir had 821 receiving yards and four touchdowns and became the Bills’ No. 1 receiver. After Buffalo traded away receiver Stefon Diggs the previous season, somebody had to take his role. Shakir was the player to step up, helping Buffalo make the postseason for the sixth straight season.
On Friday night, Shakir took the field with the rest of the Bills players, but he left shortly after. The former Boise State star went down with a leg injury and was seen walking off with trainers.
Shakir would never return to practice, and on Sunday, head coach Sean McDermott updated the media that Shakir will be week-to-week with a high ankle sprain.
Ankle sprains are always challenging to determine a timetable for recovery since everyone heals differently. Some players can come back from an ankle sprain in a week, while others take a month.
Time will tell how long Shakir will be out, but a video of the receiver was filmed Tuesday, which isn’t going to give Bills fans much hope.
Shakir Seen In Walking Boot
The Bills players went out for ice cream at Pittsford Dairy, and there was a video of the players standing in line from Stacey Pensgen of News 10 in Rochester, New York.
Field trip! Or team bonding? Either way, the @BuffaloBills seem to love their Pittsford Dairyð¦ð

In the background of the video, Shakir is kneeling on a walking scooter with a walking boot on his foot. It’s never a good sign when a player needs a walker to get around. Even though it’s only a high ankle sprain, the injury might seem worse than it is.
The good news is the season doesn’t start for another five weeks. If the season were going on now, Shakir would’ve probably been put on injured reserve, missing at least four games.
With five weeks of no real games being played, Shakir can use this time to recover for the opener.
If Shakir can’t suit up Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens, then hopefully he’s ready to go by Week 2.
The most important thing is for Shakir to be ready for the postseason run and not worry about the first few games of the year.
