The Buffalo Bills bounced back for two consecutive weeks of losses on Sunday, October 26, with a riveting win over the Carolina Panthers, with a 40-9 final score. The win puts the Bills at a record of 5-2 for the season heading into their Week 9 matchup against one of their biggest rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Bills take on the Chiefs on Sunday, November 2, at home. Prior to their win over the Panthers, the team fell to the New England Patriots in Week 5 (20-23) and to the Atlanta Falcons (14-24) in Week 6, and those memories still string. So, on top of the Chiefs game being a rivalry matchup, the pressure is on the Bills to deliver.
The league’s reigning 2025 MVP-winning quarterback, Josh Allen, of course, is at the helm of the Bills. During the Panthers game, No. 17 ran 19 times for 216 yards and two touchdowns, the majority of it taking place during the game’s first 23 minutes, according to ESPN research. “I love handing it off and getting to throw my hands up from 50 yards out,” Allen said after the game.
Josh Allen Gets Huge Honor from the Buffalo Bills
Allen continues to make history. On Tuesday, October 28, the Bills took to social media to announce that Allen is the first Bills player ever with 70-plus rushing touchdowns. He added two touchdown runs, giving him 77 for his career, including playoff games, tying him with former Panthers quarterback Cam Newton for the most all-time by a quarterback.
After the Panthers game, Allen talked about how the team handed their bye week. He thought they did all the right things.
“I think it’s the way that our guys handle (the bye),” Allen said, according to Fox Carolina. “Just making sure that we’re practicing the right way. Coming off two losses it’s been lingering with us, so we wanted to come out and put our best foot forward — and we did that.”
Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs
Heading into Week 9, NFL analyst and expert John Breech of CBS Sports is going with the Chiefs for the win. But, he’s hesitant.
“Josh Allen is so good that he can usually mask any problems that the Bills have, but not this year,” he says in a Tuesday, October 28 feature. “On offense, their receivers can’t get open, and on defense, they can’t stop the run (They’ve given up the second-most rushing yards per game in the NFL this year). That second issue is probably the bigger one because Andy Reid is one of the smartest offensive coaches in the NFL and if he sees that you can’t stop the run, then he’s going to run the ball.”
He adds, “And if you decided to go all-in on stopping the run, then Patrick Mahomes is going to throw for 700 yards. And he might do that anyway, because the Bills will be missing one of their top pass-rushers in Ed Oliver, who’s tied for the team lead in sacks (Oliver suffered a biceps injury in Week 8 and will miss several games).”
He also says that “it feels like Mahomes is playing at a higher level than Allen,” which doesn’t sound too good. For a final tally, he has the Chiefs 34-27 over Bills.
