Bills Announce Major Josh Allen News Before Patriots Game

On Sunday, December 14, Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills are slated to face the No. 1 team in the AFC East in the New England Patriots, and this game promises to showcase two of the best teams in the NFL.

According to NFL Research, the Patriots are in the playoffs. They have a greater than 99% chance of making the postseason, so in that sense, they’re in. The Bills aren’t far behind them, either, because Buffalo has a 96% chance of making the postseason going into the game. If they win it, that number will go up to 99%.

So, even though this game isn’t a make-or-break one for either franchise, since both teams are nearly locked into the postseason, it’s still shaping up to be a showdown between two of the strongest and most promising teams in the league.

Playing a team as strong as the New England Patriots will be good practice for Allen, as he prepares to try to get the Bills their first-ever championship. Ahead of the Patriots game, the NFL and Buffalo Bills have made a huge Allen announcement.

News on Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills

On Wednesday, December 10, the NFL and Buffalo Bills announced that Josh Allen is the AFC Offensive Player of the Week. The honor is thanks to his showing in the Bills win over the Cincinnati Bengals, which ended in a 39-24 final score.

This is Allen’s third time getting the honor in 2025 and the 18th time in his career. He was also named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his showing in Week 1 against Baltimore and Week 11 against Tampa Bay.

During the team’s game against the Bengals, Allen had a 78.57 completion percentage on 22-of-28 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns. He was also the second-leading rusher of the game, scrambling nine times for 78 yards and a single touchdown.

Sean McDermott Sends a Warning to the Buffalo Bills

After the team’s close win over the Bengals, coach Sean McDermott issued a warning to the team, saying, “Listen, we’re not where we want to be, but winning games this time of year is huge, and the way that we’re doing it is really good; there’s really good fabric around that.”

He got a bit nostalgic postgame, too, adding, “I saw a sign before the game, I was out trying to look at the kickers in the pre, pre warm up, just because of the snow and everything, and there was a sign on the scoreboard that was reading ‘get your seat that’s full of these memories,’ and it made me think about it. You think about all the different people that have sat in those seats over the years, some seats I’m sure have stayed in the family for multiple generations, and how special that is, moments they’ve enjoyed together.”

Following his latest win, McDermott had earned a winning record in eight out of nine years.

“It’s been a blessing to come here years ago with my family, my young family at the time, and to watch them have grown up here and the friends that they’ve made,” McDermott said when asked about that record. “It’s an unbelievable community in the way they treat each other and cheer for their teams.”
