Bills’ Brandon Beane Gives Bold Statement on Lack of Trade Deadline Moves

The Buffalo Bills opted not to make any notable moves as the trade deadline passed, which came as a surprise to many.

Buffalo could’ve added another pass rusher or receiver to its roster, but decided not to make a big move. General manager Brandon Beane believes the Bills’ roster is already good enough.

“I do believe we can win a championship with this roster,” Beane told reporters on Wednesday, via Dan Fetes.

Buffalo Could’ve Added Another Pass Rusher

Beane would be the best to know his own roster, but this roster has been in place for many seasons and has come up short over the last five years.

Buffalo did add a huge free agent addition in signing pass rusher Joey Bosa, who has four sacks in eight games this season.

Even though the Bills added Bosa, adding another pass rusher at the trade deadline wouldn’t have hurt. While Bosa has been healthy this season, he is now dealing with a wrist injury that kept him out of Wednesday’s practice.

Bosa has faced several injuries, resulting in him participating in only 14 games over the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Since Bosa is known to miss time, adding another pass rusher would’ve helped, just in case Bosa had to miss a few games.

Many people weren’t thrilled with the Bills not making any trade deadline deals, including The Athletic’s Mike Jones, who named them as one of his trade deadline losers.

“The Bills needed help on both sides of the ball. Another pass rusher would have been nice, and an interior run stopper was definitely high on the needs list,” Jones wrote on Wednesday. “So too was an explosive pass catcher to give Josh Allen the home run threat necessary to more effectively put opponents away. But Buffalo came away from the deadline with none of those boxes checked.”

The AFC is Wide Open For The Bills

The AFC seems as wide open as it has ever been before, especially with the Kansas City Chiefs sitting with a 5-4 record. It’s no secret that the Bills haven’t been able to beat Kansas City in the postseason, losing four out of their last five playoff games to them.

The Chiefs sit in third place in the AFC West, so they might not even make the playoffs. Many sportsbooks favored the Baltimore Ravens to win the Super Bowl this season, but they have a 3-5 record, and if they don’t turn it around over the next few weeks, they will likely not make the playoffs.

If the Chiefs and Ravens both miss the postseason, the Bills will be the most experienced team in the AFC in the playoffs.

It would’ve been nice for Buffalo to add to its experienced roster at the trade deadline, which could’ve put them over the top this winter.

As the Bills aim for the Super Bowl, they are currently battling the New England Patriots, who lead the AFC East with a 7-2 record. If the Bills can’t clinch the division title, they’ll find themselves playing some of their playoff games on the road.
