Last season was one of the best years in the history of the Buffalo Bills. The team finished with a 13-4 record and won the AFC East. But they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs once again in the postseason.
Even though the Bills suffered a horrible loss in the playoffs, they almost suffered another one at the hands of the coaching staff.
Bills OC Joe Brady Could be a Head Coach Soon
This past offseason, the Bills’ offensive coordinator Joe Brady’s name was floating around for a head coaching position. Many teams passed on Brady, but the New Orleans Saints seemed interested.
There was a chance that the Saints were going to hire Brady, but he decided to pull out of the job the night before the AFC title game. Brady has returned to the Bills for this season, which likely will be his last.
The 35-year-old offensive coordinator is one of the best offensive minds in the sport. With how the Bills’ offense has played the last two years, there is no way Brady’s name won’t be mentioned again in head coaching talks.
Two years ago, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson’s name was floated for every head coaching job. Instead of taking a head coaching opportunity, he returned to Detroit since he didn’t like any of the jobs available. But this offseason, he took the Chicago Bears head coaching job since it was one of the best jobs a coach could want.
Brady falls into the same boat as Johnson. He passed up coaching opportunities because he knows he can get a better one, which is likely to happen in 2026.
Buffalo Could Replace Brady With Former QB
Since Brady will likely be gone next year, the Bills will need to hire an offensive coordinator. Brandon Ray from Fansided thinks Buffalo should target Denver Broncos quarterback coach/ passing game coordinator Davis Webb.
“One former Bills player, who is now a coach with the Denver Broncos, is making some great noise to get a promotion for next season. Former NFL quarterback Davis Webb, who spent some time with the Bills back in the early part of Josh Allen’s career, is the current pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Denver Broncos, Ray wrote. “In the Broncos’ Week 2 preseason win against the Arizona Cardinals, quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger both shined in the 27-7 win. Stidham passed for 240 yards and two touchdowns, while Ehlinger passed for 162 yards. Webb deserves a ton of credit for those performances and NFL Insider James Palmer gave high praise to Webb. Specifically, Palmer said Davis could be a head coach sooner than later.’ Head coach Sean Payton also gave high praise to Webb, who called the plays for the Broncos on Saturday.”
Webb played for the Bills from 2019 to 2021, then landed a coaching position with Denver in 2023. The Broncos’ offense has looked good with Webb running things. If he can get another great season out of young quarterback Bo Nix, then his name could be floated out there for many more jobs.
