Bills’ Dion Dawkins Not Thinking About Browns’ Myles Garrett Yet as Historic Sack Looms

Football fans around the world may be watching the greatest defensive player of all-time in Myles Garrett, his opponents say.

The Cleveland Browns (3-11) star pass rusher is just two sacks away from the single-season sack record, with three games to go. He could very well break the record in Week 16 against the Buffalo Bills (10-4).

At 21.5 sacks, Garrett is just one behind Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt for the most sacks in a season. Tasked with the Garrett assignment next week is Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins, considered a top-10 left tackle in the NFL and a fan favorite that holds a key to the city.

Dion Dawkins Talks Myles Garrett Matchup

Dawkins spoke to Devin McCourty Sunday night on “Football Night in America,” where he was he was still coming down from 35-31 victory over division rival, the New England Patriots (11-3).

“I don’t want to think about Myles yet, but now I gotta think about him,” Dawkins said. “When the schedule came out, and I seen that we had Myles Garrett, I said, oh snap, here we go. I’m excited. I’m a good player and Myles is a great player. I guess I won’t think about it until after tomorrow.

“All love to Myles,” Dawkins added. “He’s the greatest defensive player that this league as ever seen. To be able to share a field with that guy, and to play against him one-on-one, I’m looking forward to it. Go ahead and get that record brother.”

Dion Dawkins Says Bills ‘Wanted it More’

The Bills erased a 21–0 deficit to defeat New England 35–31 on Sunday, denying the Patriots a chance to clinch the AFC East. Buffalo avoided a division sweep for the first time since 2019 and reached double-digit wins for the seventh consecutive season.

The balance of power in the AFC East has shifted, with Buffalo no longer the runaway standard-bearer in the division. New England still holds the division lead and controls its own destiny.

“Hearing towards the end of the week that this was a hat and t-shirt game. I’ve been a Buffalo Bill for nine years, and we’ve had those hat and t-shirt games year after year,” Dawkins said. “And to hear another team talk about (it), that stings. You come in here, be the bad apple that spoils it a little bit. It’s not the Super Bowl, but it means that this division is a tough division. And the Buffalo Bills, we not turning over, we not laying down for nobody.

“We wanted it more. And you can see it on film. You can see how guys are finishing. We just wanted it more and it came down to finishing. It’s a game of inches. And if you can push an inch better than your opponent, you have a better shot at winning.”
