Bills’ First Round Pick Labeled As Breakout Star This Year

During the 2023 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills drafted Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid with the 25th pick. In two seasons with the Bills, the 25-year-old tight end has recorded 1,121 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 29 games.

Kincaid’s production isn’t what the Bills were looking for when they drafted him in the first round. This season is going to be a big one for the former Utah tight end. Since Kincaid was a first-round pick, the team could pick up a fifth-year option in his contract. However, Buffalo has to pick up the option going into his fourth season, which would be next summer.

The Bills Need Dalton Kincaid To Have A Good Year

If Kincaid has a down season, there is no way the Bills will give him a fifth-year option. No fifth-year option means he will be a free agent at the end of the 2026 season.

The good news is that Kincaid gets to play with one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, Josh Allen. The 29-year-old quarterback is known for making his playmakers great. Maybe Kincaid just needed a few years to get his feet wet and will take off this season.

If Kincaid can show up this year, he could be the playmaker the Bills need to win the Super Bowl. The Kansas City Chiefs have had one of the best tight ends in Travis Kelce for the last decade, helping the team win three rings.

Kincaid doesn’t have to be Kelce, but he can catch critical touchdowns and move the chains on crucial downs. A good tight end always causes headaches for the opposing defense, and that’s what Buffalo needs from Kincaid.

Kincaid Labeled As Breakout Star

David Benjamin De Cristofaro from Bills Wire thinks Kincaid could have a breakout season.

“Kincaid had a strong franchise mark-setting rookie campaign that saw him gradually increase reps and routes as a hybrid receiving tight end. It was widely predicted ahead of last season that he would take on a large share of the workload as a go-to target for Josh Allen in the departures of WR1 Stefon Diggs and WR2 Gabe Davis,” De Cristofaro wrote. “Kincaid dealt with some injury and a comparatively quieter season in his second year as a pro, and is poised to have a bounce-back season with a progression from that successful first year. What’s more, the Bills are flush with offensive talent in the passing game who are going to open up open looks on the field via route running more similarly to Kincaid’s first campaign. For those reasons, as well as an offseason strength and conditioning program, Kincaid is a strong candidate to have a breakout season.”

The best thing for the Bills this year is to win the Super Bowl, but have Kincaid show out. In 2022, Buffalo drafted Florida cornerback Kaiir Elam in Round 1, and he’s no longer on the roster. The Bills traded Elam to the Dallas Cowboys this offseason due to poor performance.

Buffalo can’t afford having back-to-back first-round picks not contributing to the team. Hopefully, Kincaid has a great season and helps the Bills accomplish all their goals.
