The Buffalo Bills suffered a devastating loss on Thursday night against the Texans. Houston was playing without stud third-year QB C.J. Stroud, yet they deployed a suffocating defense that sacked Bills quarterback and reigning league MVP Josh Allen eight times in a four-point win.
The loss drops Buffalo to 7-4 on the season and they now sit two and a half games behind the 9-2 Patriots in the AFC East. New England beat the Bills in Buffalo back in October, though Buffalo has a chance to even the score in a few weeks. With just seven weeks left in the regular season, they’re running out of time to close that gap.
Coming up, the Bills play the Steelers, Bengals, Patriots, Browns, Eagles, and Jets. There are some tough games in there, but overall it’s one of the easier remaining schedules in the league. Buffalo doesn’t have much margin for error if they want to win their division, and another loss or two could put even their wild card chances in jeopardy.

The loss itself wasn’t the only bad news the Bills received on Thursday night. Two key Buffalo starters — RT Spencer Brown and LB Terrel Bernard — went down with significant injuries over the course of the game.
Bernard suffered an apparent elbow injury and was seen sporting a sling on the sideline, while Brown checked out of the game multiple times and was not on the field for the Bills’ final drive.
“Potentially,” Bills HC Sean McDermott said about the possibility of both players going on Injured Reserve (IR) during his press conference on Friday. “I just don’t know any more, it’s still early. Doesn’t look good for — I’ll start [by saying] this week, but we’ll see.”

“‘Functional’ is the key word that comes to mind,” McDermott said on how he decides if a player is ready to return to the game. “And I rely on our medical staff to say, ‘Can he function at the level he needs to function at?’ That’s usually the measuring stick for me as to, hey, can he go, can he not? Do we need to make a substitution there? Along those lines.”
“No, that was a medical piece that they said he was out,” McDermott added on the decision to keep Brown out of the game on the final drive, when the Bills failed to score a game-winning touchdown. “And last night, you gotta understand — there were probably five or six guys over the course of the game that they were evaluating and then were out, or were evaluating and then brought back. And then, I think Spencer was a little bit of both there, and then ultimately wasn’t able to go.”
