The Buffalo Bills are fortunate right now in that they’re usually named among the favorites in the NFL this season to go all the way. They have MVP-winning quarterback Josh Allen leading their offense, and just think about how many teams in the NFL would love to have a signal-caller like him on their squad. There’s really a lot of hope for the Bills when it comes to the 2025-26 season.
But, it’s not all rainbows and cupcakes. The Buffalo Bills do have an issue that they’ll have to address at some point to ensure a successful future for the team. Right now, their eyes are set on the start of the preseason and regular season, but that’s in the present moment. They’re going to have to look for some solutions for the long-term value of the team, too.
One of the most important pieces of any team is how many young players they have in the squad. The younger the team, the better that team is suited for the future. With that in mind, ESPN has a new tally out of the best NFL rosters under the age of 25.
Buffalo Bills Fall Short on 1 Lineup Factor
Aaron Schatz of ESPN has a feature out, published on Tuesday, July 29, rattling off the best teams in the NFL with players under the age of 25. Young talent is a good thing on any team. In the article, Schatz notes that “NFL teams don’t need young talent to be serious contenders, but having it helps indicate their potential for long-term success. Blue-chip players are cornerstone assets from whom teams will likely derive their biggest future value.”

This is one area where the Bills could have performed much better. Schatz has the Bills named the No. 26 best team in the NFL when it comes to age. That’s not great. Last year, they were No. 16.
In the piece, Schatz says that “the Bills have a lot of talent that is just over the age of 25. As far as talent under 25, the most important player is Benford, who ranked in the top 10 for coverage DVOA last season and will not turn 25 until September. Linebacker Dorian Williams is also 24, and wide receiver Coleman, last year’s first-round pick, is still 22 years old.”
There’s a bright spot in their age, though. He adds that “the main young talents are the rookies. First-round cornerback Maxwell Hairston, second-round defensive tackle T.J. Sanders and third-round edge rusher Landon Jackson are all 22 years old as of Sept. 1.” So, there is some youthful power on the squad.
The Youngest Team in the NFL
So, which NFL team is No. 1 for their under 25 roster? It’s the Texans, of course. They have time on their side.
“For the third straight year, the Houston Texans are No. 1 on this list of teams with the most under-25 talent, which is what happens when they trade up to get the top two picks in the draft and take two players who are very young,” he states.
The Bills will have to work to bring in young talent in the coming years. For now, though, when it comes to their power rankings for this season, those are pretty good. PFF’s power rankings have the Bills at No. 4, stating that “in a free-agent class lacking elite talent, the Bills prioritized securing their core contributors to long-term extensions.” Let’s hope this run is a good one.
