The Buffalo Bills got back into the win column with a dominant 40-9 win over the Carolina Panthers in Week 8. Next up, the Bills aim to maintain their momentum when they face the Kansas City Chiefs.
While the Chiefs got off to a rough 0-2 start this season, they’re fresh off three consecutive wins. With a healthy pool of wide receivers, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes poses a huge challenge for the banged-up Bills defense.
With Mahomes going up against Bills quarterback Josh Allen, the league’s reigning MVP, the stage is set for another must-watch showdown between the AFC rivals. Against the Panthers, Allen completed 12 passes for 163 yards and one touchdown. The dual-threat superstar also scored two rushing touchdowns on three carries.
Allen, however, does not have a fully healthy arsenal of receiving weapons, as Josh Palmer did not practice on Wednesday. While fans hold out hope Buffalo will pull the trigger on a trade for a true deep threat wide receiver, they instead activated a familiar face, wide receiver Gabe Davis.
The Bills Moved WR Gabe Davis to the Active Practice Squad, He Could Be Called Up Against the Chiefs

The Bills moved Davis to the active practice squad on Wednesday, October 29, which means they can elevate him to the active roster against the Chiefs on Sunday. The move drew strongly mixed reactions from fans.
While Davis put up historic numbers during the Bills’ heartbreaking overtime loss to Kansas City in the AFC Divisional Round in January 2022 — eight receptions for 201 yards and four touchdowns — much of Bills Mafia failed to get excited about the possible elevation.
One man posted, “Which means Beane will use him as the WR option and not trade for one…” with an angry GIF. One fan lamented, “Maybe the true deep threat wide receiver we needed was the friends we made along the way 🤷🏻♂️.” Another fan added, “If Gabe Davis is this team’s WR addition at the deadline… they are cooked as much as we already think.”
One X user noted after seeing a video of Davis at practice, “We are in trouble if Gabe is our saving grace in the passing game.”
Other members of Bills Mafia, however, were pumped. At age 26, “I don’t hate this. He’s still young. And he’s already here,” one person posted. One fan wrote, “Here comes Big Game Gabe Davis. Couldn’t come a better week than with Nantz and Romo on the call. They love this guy!” One woman posted, “I love Gabe and I’m happy to have him back 🥰❤️.”
Gabe Davis Returned to Buffalo After Signing a $39 Million Contract With the Jaguars

The Bills chose not to re-sign the consistently inconsistent receiver after his rookie contract expired. Davis moved on to sign a three-year, $39 million deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, injuries limited the veteran and he appeared in just 10 games during which he put career-low numbers before Jacksonville released him.
While Davis was still recovering from a knee injury, Buffalo re-signed him ahead of the 2025 NFL season and immediately placed him on injured reserve. Davis, selected by the Bills in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft, remains a polarizing figure in Buffalo. During his first four seasons with the team, he recorded a total of 163 receptions for 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns.
