Bills QB Josh Allen Assigns Blame After Stunning Loss to Dolphins

There was more than enough blame to go around after the Buffalo Bills‘ shocking blowout loss to the Miami Dolphins.

But quarterback Josh Allen saw one specific thing Buffalo needs to clean up.

The Bills superstar QB assigned blame to turnovers after their stunning 30-13 loss Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in South Florida.

Buffalo (6-3) fell for the third time in its past five games and is now 1.5 games back of the first-place New England Patriots (8-2) — and have already lost to the Pats and have an inferior 2-2 divisional record to New England (2-0).

The Bills will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-3) on Sunday at Highmark Stadium.

Josh Allen Blamed Turnovers For The Bills’ Loss Sunday

Allen was likely turning the blame on himself, since he was the main culprit for Buffalo’s three turnovers. He threw an interception in the end zone and also fumbled on a 15-yard run in Miami territory, which effectively ended the game.

“I gotta be better,” Allen said. “Anytime you turn it over three times, two in the red zone, and you can really count that last one driving going into the red zone, that’s a recipe for disaster.”

James Cook also fumbled with the Bills trailing 13-0, and the Dolphins recovered at their own 5-yard line, to thwart a promising drive. Miami turned that into a field goal right before halftime.

“Early on we were kind of just beating ourselves,” Allen said. “We gotta be better.”

The Bills Are Missing Something

Maybe Buffalo has been reading its headlines or is biding its time ahead of the playoffs — since it has won the AFC East five years in a row but has not been able to parlay that into postseason success.

But after winning two straight, including an emotional 28-21 home win over the rival Kansas City Chiefs last weekend, the Bills looked uninspired in a road divisional games — where thousands of their fans were cheering them on.

Allen took the blame for that as well, even though who knows where Buffalo would be without him at this point in the season.

“That starts with me,” Allen said. “I’ve gotta be better. It starts with a better week of practice, watch this one [and] learn from it [and] get onto next week.”

The Bills rank second in the NFL in yards per game (384.4) and are leading the league in rushing yards per game (153.2). Yet, they amassed just 87 on the ground and quickly ditched Cook, the NFL’s second-leading rusher, after falling behind the game script.

Forcing the Bills to be one-dimensional has been a nightmare since their miraculous Week 1 win over the Baltimore Ravens. The game again exposed leaks in the Buffalo passing offense, which ranks 12th in yards per game (231.2) and is missing a marquee pass catcher especially since tight end Dalton Kincaid left the game with a hamstring injury.

Allen can take all the blame he wants, the Bills are far down the depth chart on receivers — and will be since Kincaid is second on the team in receiving yards this year.

“It starts with me,” Allen said. “We didn’t execute. I didn’t execute.”
