Bills QB Josh Allen Reveals Game-Changing Call Ahead of Week 8

The Buffalo Bills desperately need to get back into the win column after suffering two straight losses and falling to second place in the AFC East.

While Bills quarterback Josh Allen is the league’s reigning MVP, the offense is struggling without a clear-cut No. 1 wide receiver. Amid calls for Bills general manager Brandon Beane to make a trade before the NFL deadline, Allen isn’t ringing any alarm bells.

The 29-year-old doesn’t believe they need to overhaul the offense to find success. Speaking to reporters for the first time after the bye week on Wednesday, October 22, “Sometimes it’s the small things,” he said. “You learn some things from these losses that maybe you don’t learn in wins, so we’re looking forward to trying to correct those and move on.”

“It takes everyone on the field to execute their job and a big part of that is quarterback play,” Allen continued. “So, it starts with me. We’re looking forward to getting back on track, having a good week of practice, trusting each other and having fun. That’s what it comes down to. Don’t have to get tight, don’t have to change everything.”

During the bye week, Allen revealed he got called out by his grandmother to make one simple change as they prepare to face the Carolina Panthers in Week 8 — and he’s taking her advice to heart.

Josh Allen’s Grandmother Told The Bills QB He Needs To ‘Smile More’

Amid the Bills’ early-season slump, Allen revealed he got a call from his grandmother about three days after Buffalo lost 24-14 to the Atlanta Falcons. This defeat followed Buffalo’s 23-20 loss to the New England Patriots.

“My grandma called me and was like I just want to see you smile,” Allen said.

“So, get back to some of that.. We score? Let’s go celebrate, right? It’s hard to score in this league. It’s hard to win in this league. I feel like that helps build the team, too. When you’re taking the extra 15 seconds in practice just to celebrate, pick someone up, having a lineman spike the ball, that’s what we’re going to get back to.”

Allen admitted that his grandma always stays up for the night games and that she had a point. “It’s no fun obviously losing. That’s maybe why,” Allen said of his smile going away. “It’s a lot easier to smile when you’re winning. But ultimately, going out there just trying to execute and having fun with it.”

The Panthers Will Likely Play Without Starting QB Bryce Young Against the Bills in Week 8

The Panthers will likely be without their starting quarterback, Bryce Young, on Sunday. Young suffered a right ankle sprain during Carolina’s win over the New York Jets last week and remained on the sidelines working with trainers on Wednesday.

If he can’t go, backup quarterback Andy Dalton will get the start against Buffalo. The Panthers also signed quarterback Matt White to the practice as added insurance in case Young is a no-go.

The Bills defense continues to deal with several injuries following the bye week. Neither defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (calf) nor safety Taylor Rapp (knee) participated in practice on Wednesday. Linebackers Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard were limited. Rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston was also limited, participating in practice for the first time since training camp.
