Bills QB Mitch Trubisky Sends Message on Week 18 Plans Amid Josh Allen Injury Concerns

The Buffalo Bills have a big game this weekend at home against the Jets. Currently sitting in the AFC’s No. 7 seed due to losing tiebreakers with the Chargers and Texans, the Bills are playing for a chance to move up in the seeding, potentially as high as the No. 5 seed, depending on the results of Week 18’s games.

However, Buffalo may have to do it with their star quarterback and the league’s reigning MVP. Josh Allen is dealing with a foot injury and was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday and Thursday’s practices. He did practice in a limited capacity on Friday — and, crucially, does not have an injury designation for Sunday’s game — but the Bills may choose to hold him out anyway as a precautionary measure, or at least only play him a few drives.

With Allen’s status for the Bills on Sunday in question, backup QB Mitchell Trubisky may be called upon to have a big game to vault Buffalo into a more advantageous playoff position.

“Just be prepared, as usual,” Trubisky said on Friday. “Go out there and execute if I get my number called. We haven’t exactly gone over what exactly is going to happen, but I got a good amount of reps throughout the week. So I’m feeling comfortable to be out there with the guys and execute in whatever fashion it is. So I’m excited to get that opportunity and we’ll see what happens.”

“I mean, anytime you get an opportunity to get on the field, no matter when it is, you don’t take that lightly. You want to go out there, do your best, execute, and we’re trying to win the game. That’s very important. And it means a lot playing in that stadium, for sure.”

Sunday also marks what could be the last home game for the Bills at Highmark Stadium, with Buffalo’s future there up in the air.

“Hopefully it’s not the last one, but if it is, we want to send it out the right way,” Trubisky said. “We wanna protect our turf — we always talk about that, and in front of these fans, which could be the last time, it definitely means a lot for Bills Mafia. There’s going to be a lot of emotions, but we just gotta go out and do our job and enjoy the moment.”

“I was thinking about that a little bit,” Trubisky said on what it means to him. “I’ve only been here for three years, but it’s hard to put into words what it really means to Bills Mafia. The love I can feel from the fans for that stadium, and what it’s meant to that fanbase and their families and people who have grown up in there — I mean, raised their families there, taken their kids to the games. You can definitely feel that love and affection for a stadium and it trickles out throughout the fanbase. And I think you feel that as a player, and even though I’ve only been here for three years, it means a lot.
