Bills Rookie Potentially Suffers Leg Injury at Minicamp Practice

The Buffalo Bills selected Kentucky CB Maxwell Hairston with the No. 30 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft in hopes of improving a secondary that struggled in the AFC Championship Game loss at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs last season.

Well, the Bills rookie unfortunately exited the field with a potential lower leg injury sustained during Wednesday’s mandatory minicamp practice.

Bills Rookie Maxwell Hairston Potentially Dealing with Leg Injury from Wednesday’s Mandatory Minicamp Practice

Randy Gurzi from Sports Illustrated reported some potentially concerning news for Bills rookie CB Maxwell Hairston from Wednesday’s mandatory minicamp practice, where he left the practice shortly after favoring his left leg with a potential injury.

Gurzi wrote, “Hairston, who has a contagiously positive personality, unfortunately could be dealing with a setback. During the team’s practice on Wednesday, the rookie had to leave the field with an apparent injury. Reports indicate it’s a left leg injury for Hairston, although the severity is unknown. The good news is that he was watching practice, rather than going back for treatment.”

Bills Digest editor Alex Brasky took to X to give his observations about Hairston writing, “Rookie CB Max Hairston left the field with an apparent injury late during team drills at #Bills Wednesday mandatory minicamp. Hairston was worked on by athletic trainers — appeared to be testing the function and strength of his left knee area.”

A lower leg injury for a player who relies on his top end speed and missed close to half of the season during his final year at Kentucky in 2024 is a little concerning, but certainly not worth hitting the panic button about this early in June.

One Other Bills Rookie Has Impressed Early On Throughout OTAs

Hairston was the crown jewel of the Buffalo Bills 2025 NFL Draft class, where they used their top five selections to address the defensive side of the football, but has necessarily been the talk of the town early in offseason workouts with Arkansas EDGE Landon Jackson impressing on the field during OTAs and minicamp.

Enzo Flojo of Yahoo Sports raved about Bills Jackson recently, who has reportedly been turning heads in his first taste of NFL action.

Flojo wrote, “The Buffalo Bills’ 2025 Organized Team Activities (OTAs) are in full swing. As players shake off the rust and coaches evaluate the depth chart, one rookie has quickly captured the attention of teammates, coaches, and fans alike. Landon Jackson, the third-round defensive end out of Arkansas, is not only impressing with his raw athleticism. He is also making headlines for his maturity and character off of it. As the Bills gear up for yet another run at the elusive Lombardi Trophy, Jackson’s emergence could be a pivotal development in Buffalo’s postseason ambitions.”

The Bills already have Joey Bosa dealing with a calf injury. If Hairston did sustain an injury on Wednesday, then it could be safe to say that Buffalo may have caught an early case of the injury bug this offseason.

Again, we are only in the month of June — but a team with Super Bowl aspirations would certainly prefer to avoid seeing any players getting hurt entering a very important season for the organization.
