The Buffalo Bills suffered their first loss of the 2025 campaign in Week 5 when they were surprisingly upset by their division rival, the New England Patriots. While the Pats deserve their due praise for putting together a statement performance, it’s also worth noting that the Bills did not play their best football.
Head coach Sean McDermott will be tasked with getting the team back on track ahead of Week 6, but as always, he will have to navigate some injuries that his players are dealing with. On Thursday, concern arose when star left tackle Dion Dawkins surprisingly appeared on the injury report with a new ailment.
Dion Dawkins Limited at the Bills’ Latest Practice
Through five games, the Bills haven’t been hit too hard by injuries, with a pair of defensive starters, Ed Oliver and Matt Milano, being their two most noteworthy absences to this point. However, now the team has a new issue to deal with when it comes to Dawkins and his appearance on the injury report.
Over the past four seasons, Dawkins has solidified himself as one of the top left tackles in the NFL. While he was solid to begin his career, Dawkins took a star turn in 2021, and it kicked off a streak of four straight Pro Bowl selections for him. That’s a streak he would like to extend to five in the 2025 season.
Staying healthy will be crucial in accomplishing that, and while he’s suited up for the team’s first five games of the new year, a new injury has resulted in there being some concern about Dawkins’ Week 6 status. For Thursday’s practice, McDermott revealed that Dawkins would be among a small group of players who would be limited on the day.
“Matt Milano and T.J. Sanders will not practice today. Dion Dawkins, Dorian Williams, Ed Oliver, Curtis (Samuel), Curtis will be full but the other three will be limited, and we’ll continue to take it one day at a time like we have,” McDermott said on Thursday. He simply replied “hand” when asked what caused Dawkins to be limited at the team’s most recent practice.
Sean McDermott, Bills Hoping Dion Dawkins Can Play in Week 6

It’s always somewhat concerning when a player pops up on the injury report, but it’s not worth totally panicking over Dawkins just yet. For starters, he was still limited on the day, which is better than sitting out the session entirely, and he still has one day of practice to log a full participation and get off the injury report entirely.
If Dawkins can’t play, Ryan Van Demark is the top backup behind him on the depth chart, with Chase Lundt also being an option at tackle. In Week 6, Buffalo will be taking on the Atlanta Falcons, and with kickoff being scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday Night Football, that gives Dawkins even more time to get healthy. Dawkins’ practice status will be worth keeping tabs on when Friday rolls around, as that could determine whether or not he’s on the final injury report.
