Bills’ Sean McDermott Issues Two-Word Response on Possible New Playmaker Playing Soon

The Buffalo Bills fell to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, and a significant reason for the loss was the offense.

Buffalo only managed to score 13 points, and the passing and running games require improvement if the Bills hope to win the Super Bowl this season.

Buffalo could improve its passing game by incorporating new receivers into the mix. Veteran wide receiver Gabe Davis signed with the Bills’ practice squad in early September but has yet to play this season, recovering from a knee injury, but he did return to practice in late October.

Sean McDermott Talked About Whether Davis Could Play Soon

Reporters asked Bills head coach Sean McDermott on Monday if Davis could step into a role this week.

“We’ll see,” McDermott said, via Buffalo Bills On SI Alex Brasky. “It’s been nice getting him back healthy again, but that’s the part we have to make sure of before we take another step.”

Davis spent four seasons with the Bills from 2020 to 2023, recording 163 receptions for 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns in 64 games. However, he left the team in 2024 to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Davis only appeared in 10 games for the Jaguars due to a torn meniscus injury.

It would be nice to see what Davis can bring to the field, but there’s also a chance he might not have anything left in the tank.

On Monday, the Bills signed veteran wide receiver Mecole Hardman to the practice squad, which might mean Davis might not be ready to play.

The Bills have to figure out the receiving position over the next two months of the season, or there is a chance they will not make a run in the playoffs.

Buffalo knows it has a receiving issue because it tried to acquire receivers at the trade deadline.

Bills Tried to Trade For Dolphins WR Jaylen Waddle

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, “the Bills were the high bidder for Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and also tried to acquire then-Jets DL Quinnen Williams before Tuesday’s trade deadline, per sources,” Pelissero wrote Sunday on X.

The Dolphins had no desire to do business with the Bills since they are both in the AFC East. Many teams in the same division won’t make trades with each other unless the player they are giving up is a rental, and Waddle would likely have been with the Bills for a while.

Waddle ended up having a great game against Buffalo on Sunday, having five receptions for 84 yards and a score.

Buffalo has been trying to figure out its No. 1 wide receiver ever since it traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans last offseason.

Now Diggs is the best receiver on the New England Patriots, recording 50 receptions for 554 yards and three touchdowns, helping New England to an 8-2 record.

New England currently holds the best record in the AFC East, and the Bills will need to beat them when they meet again on Dec. 14 if they want any chance of winning the division this season.
