The Buffalo Bills announced a handful of roster moved Wednesday afternoon. The signing class consisted of three new additions, and two corresponding cuts.
“The Bills signed cornerback Zy Alexander, running back Elijah Young and offensive lineman Rush Reimer,” the press release read. “The Bills have released kicker Caden Davis and running back Jarveon Howard was waived/injured.”
All three of the players coming in are undrafted free agents from the 2025 draft class. Cornerback Zy Alexander originally signed with the Seattle Seahawks before being claimed by Buffalo. And running back Elijah Young made his first stop with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The final newcomer, offensive lineman Rush Reimer, returns to the Bills after being released by the team on August 4th.
Cornerback Zy Alexander Has Big Upside
Zy Alexander appeared in 51 games in his five-year college football career.
His career began at Southeastern Louisiana, where he made 30 starts in three years. During those three seasons, he made nearly 100 tackles and intercepted nine passes.
This level of production at the FCS level was good enough to earn him looks from the crown jewel of Louisiana, LSU. He transferred to LSU in 2023 where he started immediately.
His production did not waver there. He made 44 tackles and two interceptions as a senior, then followed it up with another multi-interception season as a fifth-year corner.
At six-foot-one this rangy ball hawk will fit right into the big bodied corner room that seems to prioritize length on the outsides.
“Every NFL team is looking for lengthy corners who can match up with bigger receivers while holding their own in run support, and Alexander fits that mold with room to grow,” wrote SEC scout Bill Miller. “His combination of size, ball skills and competitive toughness will appeal to zone-heavy schemes where he can play with his eyes on the quarterback and use his instincts to make plays.”
“Alexander profiles as a Day 2 selection whose blend of length, zone instincts, and reliable tackling will appeal to teams looking for an immediate contributor with starting upside… Though he may never be a shutdown man corner, Alexander has the makings of a quality starter who brings added value with his ball production and competitive nature.”
Reimer And Young Won’t Make Final Roster
There is just five days until final cuts are due in Buffalo. This is not a lot of time for these two newcomers to break into their respective crowded rooms.
For Elijah Young, he will have to out play a couple veterans that create the Bills running back depth. Ty Johnson and Reggie Gilliam project to be the final two backs in the rotation. This leaves rookies Frank Gore Jr. and Elijah Young on the outside looking in.
For Rush Reimer, he joins an offensive line unit that already has more than 15 bodies in the room. Even if the team keeps 9-10 players at the position, there are seven more lineman currently in Buffalo left without a job.
It is much more likely that Reimer falls into the bottom seven grouping, rather than the top ten unit.
