The Buffalo Bills are clearly one of the more elite, complete team in the NFL, but they still feel like they have one clear weakness.
No true, dominating WR1.
The Bills have not had a go-to guy since Stefon Diggs was traded to the Houston Texans, and whilst Khalil Shakir has been very good, he is really more of a complementary secondary piece, rather than an offense-leading main-man.
So, ahead of the trade deadline, it would perhaps be the move to make for the team to get aggressive and splash out on a player who can be that #1 pass-catcher.
Bills Could Benefit By Going After Out-Of-Favor Pro Bowler
And one player that could be, according to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, is Jacksonville Jaguars wideout, Brian Thomas Jr. The former LSU man burst onto the season in year one back n 2024, where he managed a highly impressive 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns that ultimately resulted in him being nominated to the Pro Bowl in his rookie season.
“The Buffalo Bills are 5-2 and have the league’s fourth-ranked scoring offense.” Knox wrote on Monday. “However, they’re still trailing the New England Patriots in the AFC East, and quarterback Josh Allen lacks a true game-changing, go-to receiver.”
However, Thomas Jr. has not quite been that same player in his sophomore year, with him not managing to recreate the kind of connection with Trevor Lawrence that he had for much of his debut campaign with former backup, Mac Jones.
The Jaguars also have started to spread the ball around much more, getting the ball to players like Dyami Brown, Parker Washington and rookie #2 overall pick, Travis Hunter, who is coming off his best game as a pro back in week 7 prior to the team’s week 8 bye, where he caught 8 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.
Brian Thomas Jr. Has A Very High Ceiling In The NFL
“While Thomas hasn’t been that sort of pass-catcher during his sophomore campaignâhe’s caught 27 passes for 365 yards and one touchdownâhe showed that sort of ceiling as a rookie.” Knox wrote.
“In theory, adding Thomas would transform a very good offense into a great one. If the Bills believe that’s enough to make them a championship team, now is the time to capitalize. Targeting Thomas would make even more sense than last year’s deadline deal for Amari Cooper.”
