Bills Trade Pitch Lands Star WR From Division Rival

There is no secret that the Buffalo Bills need to give quarterback Josh Allen more help heading into the second half of the season. The reigning NFL MVP guided his team to four consecutive victories to open the 2025 season. However, the Bills then dropped back-to-back games before bouncing back with a win against the Carolina Panthers on October 26.

The two losses highlighted some glaring issues with Buffalo’s roster. While Allen remains an MVP candidate, and running back James Cook has been stellar, the team’s receiving corps is drastically underperforming. Because of this, Bills GM Brandon Beane is likely to make a move ahead of the trade deadline on November 4.

While there are several options for the Bills, they could turn to an unlikely team for help: the Miami Dolphins. Miami is historically one of Buffalo’s biggest rivals in the AFC East. Yet the 2-6 Dolphins are currently one of the worst teams in the league and could be heading towards a complete rebuild. If they go this route, star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle could very well become available in the trade market.

Buffalo Bills Hoping Another Miami Dolphins Loss Opens Door for Trade

The disappointing Dolphins could have traded another highly-rated receiver ahead of the trade deadline. Tyreek Hill currently has one more season remaining on his massive three-year, $90 million deal with the team. Nevertheless, the former Chief has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign with a severe knee injury. With Miami struggling and Hill due to have a cap hit of $51 next season, the team would have likely preferred to shed his salary.

Miami turning towards potentially shipping out Waddle does have issues though. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has claimed that the Dolphins expected to stand pat as of mid-October. “While Miami could be tempted to trade players due to its record, Waddle is a building block on offense, and he’s due $36.1 million in cash over 2025-26 — reasonable for a high-end receiver these days,” explained Fowler. “Multiple league execs expect the Dolphins’ no-trade stance to stand, barring a surprise.”

Miami’s position, however, could change as the team continues to lose. A defeat on October 30 against the Baltimore Ravens may force team execs to explore a significant rebuild. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is also widely expected to be fired at some point in the near future.

Bills Would Likely Have to Give Dolphins Multiple Draft Picks

Assuming Miami opts to offload Waddle, Buffalo would likely love to be in the sweepstakes. After all, the star has racked up 504 receiving yards this season on a bad team. Waddle has also grabbed four touchdowns as well. If he was to join Buffalo, Waddle would be leading his new team in receiving yards by some margin. Khalil Shakir currently tops the Bills with 356 yards.

Waddle also may be open to joining Buffalo as well. The star wide receiver posted a seemingly cryptic picture on his Instagram on October 16. In the post, which happened to be his first unadvertised upload this season, the Miami man is seen on the field at Highmark Stadium in Buffalo. A Bills logo is seen directly next to Waddle.

An offer of multiple day two draft picks could be enough for Buffalo to grab Waddle away from Miami. If the Bills are able to land Waddle, they would become significantly better on the offensive side of the ball. The star also fills the desperate need to give Allen a truly explosive player out wide. With Waddle, Buffalo would solidify their position as a legit Super Bowl contender.
