Bills Trade Proposal Has Them Acquire Pro Bowl QB

The Buffalo Bills may be looking for pieces to get them over the hump and into a Super Bowl for the first time since the Jim Kelly era, but sometimes its the moves to add fallback options that pay off the most.

Especially if such fallbacks happen to come at the most important position – quarterback.

Right now, the team have both Mike White and Mitchell Trubisky as their two signal callers competing to be QB2 come the start of the regular season.

There have been murmurs and predictions that it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Buffalo makes a move to cut Trubisky, if White has a good camp.

But neither Trubisky nor White have really excelled as a starter. The former Bears first rounder did not win over many admirers with his performances over the course of his seven starts for the Steelers in 2022 and 2023, whilst White has a career passer rating of less than 75, with the majority of his playing action coming with the New York Jets from 2021 to 2022.

Buffalo Could Decide To Jettison Both Backup Options

So in this trade proposal, both White and Trubisky are out, and are replaced by none other than NFL-wide fan favorite, former number one overall pick – Jameis Winston.

Winston is currently the back up for the Giants behind Russell Wilson. However, after the team selected Ole Miss QB, Jaxson Dart, with the 25th overall pick in this past NFL draft, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneer could see himself become the odd man out in New York.

Dart was not an elite, ready-to-go type prospect coming out of college, but he is also not a Malik Willis/Anthony Richardson type, who are so raw that they would benefit from having multiple years sitting behind an established starter. Thus it is totally feasible that he could beat out the famously talented but at times unreliable Winston for the no.2 job.

What Would Jameis Winston Add To The Bills?

On the Bills, Winston would be the clear backup – in all likelihood – over White and Trubisky. The former Florida State man has substantially better arm talent and far more in-game starting experience than either of Bills’ current options.

Although he has certainly been sloppy with some of his accuracy over the past few years, Winston has shown himself to be able to “tighten up” when put into good situations with franchises that have a strong offensive culture and backbone.

With Sean Payton’s New Orleans Saints, Winston showed himself to be a capable bridge starter who drastically reduced his error count. Although those mistakes reared their head once again last season under Kevin Stefanski’s Cleveland Browns, the Bills run an excellent, serious offensive system under Joe Brady.

Winston has some play similarities to starting QB, Josh Allen, and if Buffalo can get him to recapture his best, non-erratic form – he could be a great backup for the franchise.

And, in return, the Bills could also send back one of their remaining quarterbacks across the state.

Buffalo Bills receive: Jameis Winston

New York Giants receive: 2026 sixth round pick, Mike White
