The Buffalo Bills have succeeded by adopting an “everybody eats” approach on offense to spread out targets more evenly among pass-catchers, but one analyst believes they could benefit by inviting one more person to the table — and taking him from their next opponent.
The Bills have jumped out to a 3-0 start with a win over the Baltimore Ravens and two divisional victories, plus a favorable schedule over the next two months. They could have an early opportunity to seize control of the No. 1 overall seed, which has eluded them in recent years, but USA Today reporter John Sigler believes they may need to add one more piece to the offense.
Bills Tapped as Landing Spot for Saints Receiver
Sigler noted that the 0-3 New Orleans Saints could move into selling mode as the trade deadline approaches, with wide receiver Rashid Shaheed in Buffalo’s sights. While Sigler noted that fellow receiver Chris Olave could be the bigger target, the Bills could find a good addition in the cheaper Shaheed.
Sigler suggested the Bills can land Shaheed at a relatively high price, costing them a Day 2 draft pick.
“There’s been a ton of variance in wide receiver valuation lately, but the Saints should ask for more than they just traded to acquire Devaughn Vele (a fourth rounder in 2026 and a seventh-round pick in 2027),” Sigler wrote.
Sigler suggested the Bills could land him with just a third-round draft pick, giving a boost to the wide receiving corps while adding an All-Pro punt returner.
“That’s our starting price in trade talks with the Buffalo Bills, who haven’t gotten much out of their punt return squad. Shaheed could be a great weapon for Josh Allen for years to come.”
Shaheed could be a versatile addition in Buffalo. He has 108 career receptions for 1,683 yards with 11 touchdowns, adding 17 rushing attempts for 123 yards and one touchdown. Sigler noted that he would already have a familiar face on the Bills’ coaching staff.
“Buffalo’s quarterbacks coach Ronald Curry has experience with Shaheed from their time together in New Orleans and would probably put in a good word to get this deal across the finish line.
The Bills face the Saints on Sunday, and a win to drop New Orleans to 0-4 could hasten their move into selling mode for the NFL trade deadline.
Bills Could Use Downfield Threat
While the Bills are averaging 34.0 points per game so far this season, they have not been able to stretch the field much as opposing defenses have taken away longer passes and quarterback Josh Allen has been content to take shorter throws.
While Shaheed could help the Bills stretch the field with his 15.6 yards per reception average, Allen said he is content to keep taking whatever defenses offer.
âI think Iâd counter that point with, I just want to win football games,â Allen said, via the Democrat & Chronicle. âWeâre winning football games and we are doing whatâs asked of us. At the end of the day, each and every play doesnât need to be a home run, but as long as weâre taking singles and finding completions, and staying in front of the sticks and scoring points, canât argue with the results.â
