Bills Urged To Put $16 Million Defensive Player On Trade Block

The Buffalo Bills are heading into their first preseason game this week, which means training camp will be coming to an end soon.

With only a month before the Bills take on the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1 of the regular season, the team will be making critical roster decisions.

Buffalo Will Have Many Roster Decisions

The worst part about this time of year is seeing fan favorites get cut or traded because of a lack of roster spots. Since the Bills are HBO’s Hard Knocks this summer, fans are going to fall in love with many players who will be on the chopping block in the next three weeks.

Some players will be new rookies who were added to the team after the NFL Draft. There will also be veterans who will be moved to add more cap space.

One position group that the Bills could move a player from is the defensive tackle room. Buffalo has Ed Oliver, DaQuan Jones, Larry Ogunjobi, TJ Sanders, DeWayne Carter, and Deone Walker.

Bills Could Part Ways With DaQuan Jones

Buffalo could decide to part ways with one of the veterans in the room, and Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report thinks DaQuan Jones should be on the trade block.

“Like the Ravens, the Buffalo Bills have realistic dreams of a Super Bowl in 2025. However, they also face one of the worst cap situations in the league. No team has to shed more salary before August 26 than Buffalo. This means they will face some difficult decisions in the coming weeks. They should make one of them now and place defensive tackle DaQuan Jones on the trade block,” Knox wrote. “The 33-year-old has been a good contributor in his three seasons with the Bills, but he was a liability against the run last season. Pro Football Focus ranked him 57th among all interior defenders but 122nd in run defense. Buffalo reloaded its defensive interior this offseason, signing Larry Ogunjobi before drafting T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker.

“While Ogunjobi faces a six-game suspension to start the season, the Bills have enough depth to at least see what Jones might bring in return. Moving the final year of his contract would save $7.8 million in cap space,” Knox added.

Jones is on a two-year, $16 million deal, which can be voided after the season. Jones is entering his 12th NFL season after spending time with the Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers. In 2022, he joined the Bills and has appeared in 39 games, recording seven sacks.

Buffalo Shouldn’t Trade Jones

It wouldn’t be wise for the Bills to part ways with Jones since he is a veteran leader on a defense that needs to play better this season. Too many times last year, Buffalo’s defense failed the offense, and that can’t happen in 2025.

The Bills have a roster that can win a Super Bowl right now, and having a lot of veterans with experience could help them reach the Super Bowl.
