The Buffalo Bills are dealing with several injuries during training camp. Last week, Buffalo’s 2025 first-round pick cornerback Maxwell Hairston suffered a knee injury during practice.
Hairston is expected to be week-to-week, with his return time uncertain. Another big-time Bills player got injured last Friday, with wide receiver Khalil Shakir going down with an ankle sprain.
Bills Part Ways With Linebacker
Head coach Sean McDermott stated that Shakir will be week-to-week and there’s a chance he could be close to missing the Week 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens.
The injury bug didn’t stop biting the Bills at training camp this week, either. On Monday, linebacker Baylon Spector was injured, and on Wednesday, he was waived with an injury designation. If Spector clears waivers, then he could return to the Bills’ injured reserve.
Buffalo drafted the 26-year-old linebacker with no. 231 pick 2022. Spector played his college football at Clemson, winning the 2018 national championship as a freshman.
In three seasons in Buffalo, Spector played in 26 games, recording 52 tackles and 1.5 sacks. While the former Clemson star was more of a special teams and rotational player, his role on the team will be missed.
Roster moves:
– Signed LB Jimmy Ciarlo.
– LB Baylon Spector has been designated as waived/injured.

To take Spector’s place, the Bills signed linebacker Jimmy Ciarlo. Ciarlo played his college football at Army West Point from 2020 to 2023 and recorded 58 tackles.
Ciralo was an undrafted free agent by the New York Jets last season but was out for the year after suffering an injury in preseason. Ciralo will now get a chance to make the Bills’ 53-man roster, but it will be an uphill climb.
Buffalo Will Have A Handful of Roster Decisions
Buffalo already has linebackers Matt Milano, Terrel Bernard, and Dorian Williams, Joe Andreessen, and Shaq Thompson. The linebacker room seems filled at the moment, but if Ciralo shows off his skills, then he could make the active roster.
The Bills will take on the New York Giants on Satruday in their first preseason game. Ciralo will have the chance to show the Bills early how he handles live game action. Preseason games are always a good way for nonproven players to show what they can do against other competition.
Every day the Bills get to practice, but it’s not the same as going after someone in a different uniform. Practices can be hard sometimes to get motivated for, so that’s why preseason competition is always great for players to show the team why they should make the roster.
The Bills have five weeks until they open their season against the Baltimore Ravens, and the injury bug could cost them a win. Every team deals with injuries, but Buffalo’s first two weeks of camp are something else.
Hopefully, the Bills’ training camp injuries aren’t a sign of what to come in the regular season, or it could be a bad year in Orchard Park.
