The Chicago Blackhawks should be looking to end their rebuild and start being competitive soon, so Chicago could look to add some impact players.
Heavy.com has a trade idea that would see the Blackhawks acquire Jason Robertson from the Dallas Stars in a blockbuster deal.
Blackhawks acquire:
Stars acquire:
- Connor Murphy
- Lukas Reichel
- 2026 first-round pick (Florida)
- 2026 second-round pick (Toronto)
- 2026 second-round pick (Islanders)
The proposed deal would be a blockbuster as Chicago would add another first-line forward to bolster its offense. Dallas, meanwhile, gets an NHL defenseman, a young NHL forward, and three draft picks they can use in other trades to acquire other impact players.
Chicago would acquire Robertson, who’s entering the final year of his four-year, $31 million deal. Robertson’s name has come up in trade talks, and the Blackhawks would be wise to make a move for him. He recorded 35 goals and 45 assists for 80 points in 82 games last season.
In return, the Blackhawks would give up three draft picks, all in 2026, including a first-round pick, but none would be their own. Chicago would also give up Murphy, who’s a second-pair defenseman. The 32-year-old, right-shot defenseman is in the final year of his four-year, $17.6 million deal. He recorded 2 goals and 17 assists for 19 points in 68 games.
Chicago would also give up Reichel, whose name has come up in trade talks as he hasn’t lived up to expectations. Reichel was a first-round pick in 2020 but played on the fourth line last season. With the Stars, he could get a middle-six role and chip in offensively. He recorded 8 goals and 14 assists for 22 points in 70 games.
Blackhawks GM ‘Optimistic’ Rebuild is Nearly Over
Chicago was once again one of the worst teams in the NHL last season, but they have taken steps forward.
During last season, Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson spoke to the media and said he feels more optimistic that the rebuild is nearly over.
“I’m probably more optimistic having seen the years our young players are having throughout the organization,” Davidson said in January… “A macro level and much higher-level view, I’m really excited and really happy with where things are headed. Like you said, the NHL team, I wish we did have a little more success here in the first half than we have. But it doesn’t diminish the progress I think we’re making big picture.”
The Blackhawks finished the year with a record of 25-46-11 and had the second-worst record in the NHL. But, Chicago is hopeful that they will be more competitive next season.
Robertson’s Been Involved in Trade Rumors
Although Robertson is one of the top players for the Stars, his name has come up in trade rumors.
The Stars are in a cap crunch, and Robertson’s name was mentioned as a trade possibility. NHL.com analyst Dan Rosen, meanwhile, thought it was 50-50 if he would get traded.
“So, what’s the likelihood he is traded? Cop-out answer, but probably 50/50 at this point because it really depends on if the Stars and Robertson can or even want to try to get a new deal done sooner rather than later. Robertson has one season remaining on his contract at an average annual value of $7.75 million against the NHL salary cap and can become a restricted free agent after this season,” Rosen wrote.
Robertson was selected 39th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft by the Stars. He’s a one-time NHL All-Star.
