The Chicago Blackhawks could be getting some terrible news. In the final seconds of Friday night’s game against the St. Louis Blues, Blackhawks star Connor Bedard went down awkwardly during a faceoff.
The Blackhawks were pushing the tie the game, but eventually lost 3-2. Unfortunately for Chicago, they lost much more than the game. Following the final horn, Bedard immediately went to the dressing room, assisted by medical staff.
The replay clearly showed that the Blackhawks’ leading scorer sustained some type of shoulder injury. However, no specific details have been revealed about the injury at this point. The news, sadly, could be devastating for Bedard and this team.
According to renowned medical expert, Dr. Harjas Grewal, the prognosis could be catastrophic for Bedard and the Blackhawks. Here’s what Dr. Grewal wrote on his official X account:
So, there’s a chance Bedard may not need surgery. Nevertheless, the shoulder subluxation could require several weeks of rest and rehab. As for how many weeks, that’s up to the Blackhawks’ medical staff to determine.
Bedard has presumably undergone further testing on Saturday. Again, no further information has been revealed. The team will likely want to be absolutely certain what the path forward could be.
If Bedard needs surgery, there might be a chance his season could be over. Depending on the severity of the overall injury, that may be a possibility. Judging from Bedard’s reaction, it could be a serious situation.
But then again, the hope is that everyone is just acting out of an abundance of caution.
Bedard’s Shot at Olympics Likely Gone
Connor Bedard had been one of the hottest names rumored to be on Team Canada’s radar for the 2026 Olympics. Lamentably, this “freak accident” changes everything.
Even if the Blackhawks star misses two or three weeks, Team Canada will name its roster at the end of the month. As such, there is no certainty that Bedard will be ready for action by then. Like Team USA and Jack Hughes, the lack of clarity could be too much for the team to handle.
So, Friday’s injury could be more than enough for Team Canada to cross Bedard’s name off the list. He’s still a young player and will surely get a chance for 2030.
In the meantime, the focus will be on Bedard and his recovery.
Bedard Injury Could Derail Blackhawks’ Season
There’s another angle to consider. The Blackhawks are in the midst of a much better-than-expected season. In fact, they’re on the fringes of the Western Conference playoff race.
But with Bedard going down, there’s no telling if the team may be able to recover. It’s possible that this injury could derail the Blackhawks’ season. While the team has plenty of talent, losing its top scorer could have significant consequences.
On Saturday night, the Blackhawks fell flat. They lost 4-0 to the Detroit Red Wings on home ice. That loss could be a precursor for what might be a tough stretch for Chicago moving forward. The hope is that the team can bounce back meanwhile Bedard is out of the lineup.
