Blue Jays Arm Cut From New Team Amid the Worst Bo Bichette News

The Toronto Blue Jays have been big players during this MLB offseason. They have been making moves left, right, and sinker (center). Toronto has added Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, and Tyler Rogers to replace Max Scherzer, Chris Bassitt, and Seranthony Dominguez. Additionally, they traded Justin Bruihl to the Cleveland Guardians for cash, which could be put to good use given the speculation surrounding Bo Bichette, Kyle Tucker, and now Alex Bregman.

The Blue Jays have gotten a dose of good news with one shortstop prospect, who could (seemingly) replace Bichette one day. They also have an “aggressive” catcher who is an exceptional defensive player and a 6-foot-6 pitcher purcolating.

One hit of bad news is that Munetaka Murakami has signed with the Chicago White Sox. The Blue Jays had interest, but he ultimately agreed to go elsewhere.

With Christmas swiftly approaching, Blue Jays fans would love some good news. Unfortunately, another new team is “heavily engaged” with Bichette, and Toronto appears to be preparing for life without him.

Former Toronto Blue Jays Reliever DFA’d by New Team

On December 20th, a couple of days after trading for him, the Guardians have DFA’d Bruihl. This paved the way for them to bring back one of the most underrated relievers in baseball, Shawn Armstrong.

The Armstrong deal is for one year with a mutual option for the 2027 season.

It seems like this was always going to be the play with the Guardians and Bruihl. Because they traded for him, they obviously see some potential in the lefty.

In 2025, Bruihl recorded 18 strikeouts and four holds in 15 games. Despite having a 5.27 ERA, he posted an xERA of 3.69.

Phillies Are “Heavily Engaged” With Bo Bichette

A new team has emerged as a major player for Bichette: the Philadelphia Phillies.

One MLB insider, known on X as MoccBomb, recently revealed this information.

Phillies are ‘heavily engaged’ in the Bo Bichette sweepstakes,” MoccBomb wrote on December 19th. “Would be an exceptional fit in the middle of that order. Would signal the end of JT in Philly, barring a crazy deal, as I connected them with Caratini earlier today. Phillies are BIG players here.”

According to FanGraphs, Bichette’s 134 wRC+ would rank second on the Phillies. Only Kyle Schwarber has a higher wRC+ of 152. Bichette would be a massive addition for the Phillies, and it could mean the end of a JT Realmuto reunion.

Blue Jays Turning to Alex Bregman

With Bruihl long gone and Bichette with one foot out the door, the Blue Jays will need to turn to someone to help the infield. And that’s where Bregman comes in.

Following the Winter Meetings, The Athletic reports that Bregman was a backup plan.

“Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins didn’t divulge much about the team’s interest in Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette,” Mitch Bannon wrote on December 9th. “The top remaining hitters in free agency. Bregman, two league sources said, could be a potential back-up plan for Toronto if the Jays fail to sign Tucker or Bichette.”

Now, a new report reveals more details about the link between the Blue Jays and Bregman.

“Ideally, the Jays want to add a left-handed hitter,” Ken Rosenthal wrote on December 20, 2025. “But, either the right-handed Bregman or Bichette would fit their defensive alignment better than Tucker or Cody Bellinger, both of whom bat left.”

Adding to the speculation surrounding Toronto and Bregman is the player’s connection to two current Blue Jays: George Springer and Myles Straw.

“Adding to the possible fit with Toronto,” Rosenthal continues. “Two of Bregman’s former Houston Astros teammates, Springer and outfielder Myles Straw, are among the leading voices in the Jays’ clubhouse, which already is one of the game’s most cohesive.”

With Christmas only a few days away, there may be some resolution on this front for the Blue Jays. One thing is certain: this team won’t look the same as it did last year.
