The Toronto Blue Jays will have to decide whether they want to re-sign Bo Bichette. After signing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a $500 million deal, the idea for the Blue Jays has to be going out and adding more talent. Giving Guerrero the money he was looking for wouldnât have made any sense unless the Blue Jays plan to do just that.Â
However, with questions about what the organization might do, some believe that could mean Bichette will walk in free agency. Ultimately, if the Blue Jays don’t give him exactly what he wants, another team likely will.Â
Could Bo Bichette Be Heading to Join the Dodgers?
Regarding which team that might be, this might not come as a surprise to many, but Christopher Kline of FanSided named the Los Angeles Dodgers as one of the teams he thinks will be in the mix.Â
The Dodgers have constantly proven over the past few years that theyâre willing to do whatever it takes to land one of the top free agents on the market, and Bichette will be a top-three player available.Â
âMLB does not need a salary cap. The system is not “broken” in the way cheap, small-market owners would have you believe. But if there’s anything we know about the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2026, it’s that their resources are endless and their sights will be set on just about any available star. We’ve already heard the Dodgers tossed around as a potential sleeper for Kyle Tucker and his $400 million-plus salary. Bichette might be a more realistic target.
âMookie Betts has reached a low point in his career. Meanwhile, the Dodgers’ outfield desperately needs a facelift, as the Michael Conforto signing has not panned out. It shouldn’t be hard to move Betts to left field and install Bichette at shortstop full-time, where he can share the infield with the likes of Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy and Hyeseong Kim,â Kline wrote.
The question for Los Angeles will likely come down to how much Bichette will get in free agency. While the Dodgers haven’t been afraid to spend, and many don’t expect them to change that philosophy anytime soon, it’s almost insane to believe that they can continue spending at the rate they are. Perhaps the Dodgers will, but it remains unknown at this time.Â
Do the Dodgers Have an Interest in Bo Bichette?
It isn’t crazy to suggest that the Los Angeles Dodgers will be in the mix for Bichette, however. According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, in an article released in May, he noted that the Dodgers could be one of the teams interested in acquiring him.Â
Things have changed since then, obviously, with the Toronto Blue Jays playing excellent baseball, but the Dodgers need a shortstop with Mookie Betts playing there and some outfield issues.Â
âBichette was so consistent from 2021 to 2023, hitting 20 homers or more each year and leading the American League in hits twice. His OPS+ ranged from 121 to 128 in those seasons. Bichette had a subpar 2024 during which he battled injuries, but he has been better this year, hitting .286 with four homers and a 119 OPS+, which matches his career mark. Heâll need to pick it up some and get back to his 2021-23 form if he wants to get paid at that value, which is probably close to the six-year, $171 million offer that Bregman received from the Tigers last offseason. Bichette might have to be willing to move to third base for certain interested teams like the Tigers, Yankees or Dodgers, but he should have a strong market if he plays at his accustomed level this season,â he wrote.
