Toronto Blue Jays star shortstop Bo Bichette recently shared his thoughts on Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier at UFC 318. The trilogy fight will headline the event and will be contested for the BMF title.
Poirier is retiring after the bout and hopes to end his storied career by capturing the BMF title. Holloway looks to spoil those plans and avenge his previous two losses to The Diamond.
Bichette, a fan of the sport, made it clear that he’s supporting Holloway heading into the highly anticipated lightweight clash. Speaking to Sportsnet, the Blue Jays shortstop expressed excitement for the UFC 318 headliner, but is rooting for Blessed.
He also shared his thoughts on what a win would do for Holloway in the lightweight division.
“Obviously, two great fighters, but I’m rooting for Max,” Bichette said. “I would love to see Max win, so hopefully Max gets another shot maybe at [Ilia] Topuria or something like that. So, I’m rooting for Max.”

Holloway responded after hearing Bichette‘s comments and showed genuine appreciation for the Blue Jays star. It’s no secret that Blessed has a strong connection to Toronto, having headlined UFC 206 and UFC 231 in the city.
The BMF title holder was grateful for the support and echoed Bichette’s prediction regarding a potential rematch against Ilia Topuria. Holloway emphasized that his goal is to continue winning championships and avenge his loss against Topuria.
“Hell yeah, my guy! My Toronto Tenth Island supporting the boy. That’s huge, man,” Holloway told Sportsnet.
“They already know where I wanna go, they know I’m here to win undisputed world titles, but the first fight is BMF and [I’m] ready to get our hand raised against [Poirier].”
Holloway also thanked the Blue Jays for surprising him with a customized jersey during fight week:
“Yes, sir! Blue Jays, my guys. Thank you,” Holloway said while holding up the jersey.
Max Holloway Admits His Retirement Will Likely Look Different From Dustin Poirier’s
As Poirier prepares for his final UFC fight, Holloway was recently asked how he views retirement from MMA. He discussed how he envisions his own retirement to be different from how Poirier is retiring at UFC 318.
UFC 318 has been promoted around Poirier’s final fight, especially with it taking place in Louisiana, his home state. Holloway said that he would prefer retiring after a fight rather than announce it ahead of time.
Speaking to MMA Fighting, Holloway shared that his retirement will likely be unannounced, without even telling his own family. wouldn’t even tell his own family. Instead, he would thank the fans during his post-fight interview and just lay his gloves down in the octagon.
“When [my retirement] comes, it’s probably just going to be one of those things where I’m going to be in there after the fight, tell you guys I’m done, I’m over, thank you for the love, and put my gloves down and walk out of that octagon,” Holloway said. “I don’t think I’d tell anybody, I think I’d just spring it upon all of them and just surprise them all.”
“I’d probably keep it a secret and do it. In the heat of the moment, you don’t know how you feel,” he added.
