The Toronto Blue Jays could soon make another major addition to their roster.
Toronto has been linked to both Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette, but it seems unlikely the team will sign both. On Wednesday, ESPN MLB insider David Schoenfield predicted Toronto would land Tucker and sign him to an 11-year, $418 million deal.
“Prediction: Blue Jays,” Schoenfield wrote. “The Jays are doubling down on their World Series appearance so far, signing starters Cease and Cody Ponce, who’s coming off Korean League MVP honors, as well as reliever Tyler Rogers. With George Springer in the final year of his deal, Tucker can be viewed as Springer’s replacement in the outfield (with Anthony Santander as the DH).
“The Jays also have a lot of other money coming off the books after 2026 (Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber, Myles Straw and Yimi Garcia). Including Springer, that’s $78 million, so they can absorb the long-term implications of a Tucker deal.”
The Blue Jays’ landing Tucker would be a major get for Toronto and their World Series chances. Tucker is the top free agent available and would be a middle-of-the-order bat to hit either right before or after Vladimir Guerrero Jr., as they could protect each other.
Tucker is a four-time MLB All-Star who hit .266 with 22 home runs and 73 RBIs last season.
Blue Jays Predicted to Lose Bichette to Rival
Although Schoenfield predicts Toronto will sign Tucker, the Blue Jays did get horrible news on Bichette.
With it being unlikely that Toronto will sign both Tucker and Bichette, Schoenfield predicts the star shortstop will ink a five-year, $150 million deal with the New York Yankees.
“Prediction: Yankees,” Schoenfield added. “We’re trying to read the tea leaves here and those Jazz Chisholm Jr. trade rumors keep popping up. Perhaps the Yankees are trying to clear space for a new infielder? Bichette could either provide another option at shortstop to Anthony Volpe, who struggled at the plate in 2025 and saw his defense regress as well, or play second, with Jose Caballero still around to back up both positions.”
Bichette leaving the Blue Jays for their arch-rival would be a major blow and would be a tough pill to swallow for many fans. However, if Toronto signs Tucker, it would ease the pain, as Tucker is one of the best hitters in all of baseball.
Bichette is a two-time All-Star. He hit .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs last season.
Toronto Unlikely to Sign Both Tucker & Bichette
The Blue Jays have been one of the most active teams in free agency, and Toronto has been linked to both Bichette and Tucker.
However, on Tuesday, MLB.com’s insider Mark Feinsand reported that Toronto won’t be able to sign both Tucker and Bichette.
“I think Kyle Tucker is the first domino that needs to fall,” Feinsand said. “Tucker has a big market, and the Blue Jays are very into him. There are other teams, the Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers. … The only thing that I don’t see is Toronto getting Tucker and Bichette. If Tucker goes somewhere else, then maybe Bichette returns to Toronto.”
Ultimately, the Blue Jays may have to pick between Tucker and Bichette, and Schoenfield expects them to pick Tucker.
