The Toronto Blue Jays keep making moves this winter. They have put the MLB on notice with the additions of Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, and Tyler Rogers that they mean business. While they wait to see how the Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker markets play out, they have added depth at multiple levels, including a pitching prospect with considerable potential.
The Blue Jays currently have a full 40-man roster, without making the Rogers signing official. Whether it’s through options, waivers, or even trades, some moves need to be made before new signings can be made official.
Mark Shapiro, the Blue Jays’ CEO and President, has sent a message to Bichette. He wants the team to be competitive, while also believing in the depth currently on the roster.
However, the fans clamoring for Toronto to land both Bichette and Tucker were given a harsh dose of reality.
Toronto Blue Jays’ Hopes of Adding Bo Bichette & Kyle Tucker Dashed
In a perfect world, the Blue Jays would sign both Bichette and Tucker. And just like Jeff Passan says, if there is any team that has a hope of adding both, it’s Toronto.
However, at least one insider believes expectations need to be tempered. Jon Morosi joined MLB Tonight on Monday, December 15th, 2025. During his appearance, he gave an update on the Blue Jays’ situation regarding Bichette and Tucker.
“This is now the next question,” Morosi said on the MLB Network. “Because the Tucker market will impact Bo Bichette. We do not expect the Jays to get both; it is a one or the other scenario. It certainly seems as though the Tucker decision will come before the Bichette decision.”
“So if Tucker ends up going to Toronto, Bichette (will) likely go elsewhere. Atlanta being one of the possibilities.”
Granted, this is not what Blue Jays fans want to hear. However, Morosi did say “likely go elsewhere” and not “no way the Blue Jays can sign both.”
With that dose of cold water aside, Morosi also provided a potential timeline for when a decision on Tucker could be made.
“I do think that we’ll see in the next 48-72 hours…Do the Yankees, do the Dodgers, do the Giants jump in, or are the Blue Jays truly the favorites?”
Whoever wins the Tucker sweepstakes, be that the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, or the San Francisco Giants, they will be adding a 22-home run, 73 RBI, 25 stolen bases outfielder.
Bichette’s Chances of Landing With the Atlanta Braves
The Blue Jays would love to add the offense of both players. However, the MLB is a business, not a candy store, so Toronto can’t just walk up to every great offensive player and purchase their services.
As far as the Atlanta Braves‘ chances of signing Bichette are concerned, the Blue Jays got some good news in that department. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal revealed the likelihood of him going to Atlanta on Monday’s installment of Foul Territory.
In responding to a fan question about the chances of Bichette signing with the Braves, he had this to say.
“I would say extremely low,” Rosenthal said on the December 15th, 2025 episode. “Bo Bichette is one of the best hitters in this market. Maybe, in some ways, the best hitter. He hits good pitching; he hits all kinds of pitching. He is a threat from the right side.”
Rosenthal goes on to explain that the big question with Bichette is not about the interest from teams, but what position he will play.
“My understanding is that he has received offers to play shortstop,” Rosenthal said. “Certain teams are looking at him as a shortstop. Are the Braves going to be one of those teams?”
“I don’t expect that to be the case. And I don’t expect them to be his ultimate landing spot.”
Bichette knocked out 18 home runs in addition to 94 RBIs and 181 hits.
No matter which way this situation plays out, the Blue Jays will come into Spring Training with at least one of these two big-time sluggers.
