Blue Jays Get Massive Update in Pursuit of Kyle Tucker

The Toronto Blue Jays have gotten a major update on their pursuit of the offseason crown jewel, Kyle Tucker.

Tucker is the top free agent available, and several teams will be after him. However, MLB insider Robert Murray of FanSided reports that Tucker was visiting the Blue Jays’ facility in Dunedin.

“Free-agent outfielder Kyle Tucker was spotted at the Toronto Blue Jays’ facility in Dunedin, Fla., on Wednesday, according to sources familiar with the situation,” Murray wrote. … “But the Blue Jays are once again examining the big-game market, evidenced by bringing in Tucker for a visit.”

Tucker played last season with the Chicago Cubs after being traded from the Houston Astros. Last season, he hit .266 with 22 home runs and 73 RBIs as he dealt with injuries. He’s a four-time MLB All-Star. Tucker is also a two-time Silver Slugger Award winner and a one-time Gold Glove Award winner.

Tucker would join a Blue Jays lineup that features Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer, among others.

What Will Tucker Get in Free Agency?

Tucker is the top free agent available this offseason and will be in line for a massive payday.

The slugger is the top-ranked free agent, and ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel predicts Tucker will sign an 11-year, $418 million deal, which is a $38 million AAV.

“Tucker and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had long been circled as the two players who could potentially sign megadeals in this free agent class. But Tucker is alone at the top since Vlad Jr. got his extension (14 years, $500 million) during the 2025 season,” McDaniel wrote. “Tucker had some ups and downs to his 2025 season, covered in my September breakdown (and polling of the industry) of his free agent market. I go into a lot of depth about the comparables and how the market values Tucker vs. Guerrero. …

“Every team knows what the “expected” contract is for these top players. A handful of interested teams aim for that target more or less, then run into competitive forces. And at least one team is willing to go a bit over the projection because of the lack of elite players available.

Tucker won the World Series with the Astros in 2022.

Blue Jays Showing Interest in Other Players

Along with Tucker, Toronto is showing interest in other star players.

The Blue Jays have been active this offseason, landing Dylan Cease to a seven-year, $210 million deal. Toronto also signed right-handed pitcher Cody Ponce to a three-year, $30 million deal on Tuesday. He will add more depth to the pitching staff after pitching in Korea last year.

However, Toronto likely isn’t done, as Murray reports the Blue Jays are showing interest in Bo Bichette and two relievers.

“In addition to Tucker, the Blue Jays also have interest in retaining free-agent infielder Bo Bichette. He’s coming off one of his best seasons in the majors, hitting .311/.357/.483 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs.

“The Blue Jays are also looking for a late-inning reliever, with Pete Fairbanks and Brad Keller being among the potential fits.”

Toronto’s biggest need outside of a bat is likely a late-inning reliever.
