The Toronto Blue Jays came two runs away from winning the World Series. Ultimately, it was the team’s inability to shut down their opposition’s bats that led to the Los Angeles Dodgers walking away with a second consecutive World Series Championship.
Free agency is currently underway, with the Blue Jays predicted to be big spenders. However, one MLB insider has connected fan favorite Bo Bichette to the Detroit Tigers.
Bo Bichette Would Be the Perfect Move For the Detroit Tigers
ESPN’s MLB insider, Jeff Passan, released a list of offseason predictions for many teams. For each time he proposed the “perfect transaction.” The one he wrote for the Tigers should raise the eyebrows of Blue Jays fans.
Passan writes that because of the Tigers’ situation with ace Tarik Skubal, they need to go all-in this season.
“If the Tigers aren’t going to sign Tarik Skubal to a long-term extension, they have to consider dealing him this winter,” Passan wrote on November 11, 2025. “The asking price for one year of Skubal is bound to be exorbitant, though, big enough that the better play for the Tigers might be pushing in for this year.”
With that desire established, Passan writes that Bichette would be the perfect addition.
“As good as Detroit’s farm system is — infielder Kevin McGonigle is going to be a star, and he could debut in 2026, with center fielder Max Clark and slugger Josue Briceño not far behind — adding a long-term, middle-of-the-order, impact bat is never a bad idea,” Passan reasons. “There happens to be one who can spend a year or two at shortstop if necessary and then pivot to second base long term. Sign free agent infielder Bo Bichette.”
Bichette had a good season with the Blue Jays. He recorded 18 home runs and 94 RBIs to go along with 181 hits and a .311 batting average.
Bo Bichette’s Next Deal Will Be Massive
There are many predictions out there for what Bichette will score with his next contract. On the New York Post’s top 40 free agents list, Bichette sits at number three.
“He’s a great hitter, and if not for the late injury, would have led the league in hits a third year in four,” Jon Heyman wrote on November 10th, 2025. “Most will see him as a 3B or 2B. Willy Adames is a fair comp. $182M, 7 years.”
MLBTradeRumors believes that Bichette is one of two players who will fetch over $200 on the open market this winter.
“Bichette is young enough, heading into his age-28 season, and potent enough in the batter’s box that it’s easy to imagine a team making some room to fit him into the mix by making a trade or two,” the site wrote on their free agent projections, published on November 6th. “After Tucker, he’s perhaps the best bet on this year’s free-agent market to clear $200MM in guaranteed money.”
Elsewhere, The Athletic has the highest contract projection out there for Bichette. Tim Button compares the Blue Jays’ shortstop’s next deal to that of Willy Adames and Corey Seager. He lands on an eight-year, $212 million prediction.
This winter will be an entertaining one for Blue Jays fans. From the sounds of things, they have their hands in a lot of different baskets.
Time will tell if the Blue Jays can hold on to him, or if the call from the Tigers or New York Yankees will be too much for them to resist.
