Blue Jays Will Reportedly Have Interested in Projected $427 Million Star

With the offseason approaching in Major League Baseball, it isn’t something that the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers are too worried about. As the Blue Jays approach the offseason, there’s reason to believe that the front office will be more active than ever.

Remember, Toronto has tried to sign some of the top free agents in baseball over the past few years, but it hasn’t succeeded.

With Kyle Tucker available, it sounds like the Blue Jays are going to give him a call and try to see if he’d be willing to play in Toronto, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

“The Blue Jays are another team that could play for No. 1 free agent Kyle Tucker. They played for the biggest free agents — Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto — and Jays sources say they still would have signed Vlad Guerrero Jr. even if they’d gotten Ohtani or Soto.

“The Dodgers and Giants are other logical landing spots for Tucker,” he wrote.

Could the Blue Jays Land a Big Free Agent This Offseason?

Adding someone like Tucker for the Toronto Blue Jays makes plenty of sense if they want to continue to be one of the top teams in baseball. After an impressive run through the American League, the Blue Jays are now tied 2-2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.

However, if the Blue Jays want to land a player of Tucker’s caliber and continue building this roster, they’ll have to hope the Chicago Cubs aren’t willing to give him as much money as he wants.

“Kyle had a good experience here,” Jed Hoyer of the Cubs said, per Patrick Mooney of The Athletic. “He certainly enjoyed playing in Chicago. I think that Wrigley and our fans made a huge impact. But, ultimately, Kyle has a big decision. He’s earned the right to not only be a free agent but to be a coveted free agent. I would expect that they would play their cards kind of close to the vest.”

What Will Kyle Tucker Want This Offseason?

The final decision for Tucker will likely come down to how much money he wants and whether teams like the Toronto Blue Jays are willing to pay him.

When predicting contracts around Major League Baseball, former GM and current reporter Jim Bowden predicted Tucker would land a 10-year, $427 million deal. That’d be a lot of money for the Blue Jays to hand out, but they have enough to make something happen.

“Despite a season that was marred by injury and inconsistent performance, Tucker is expected to be the highest paid free agent in this year’s class, with most analysts believing he will get between $400 million and $500 million based on the recent contracts given to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ($500 million; Blue Jays) and Juan Soto ($765 million; Mets).

“Even in a season that saw Tucker dealing with multiple injuries, he was able to impact the game in all areas thanks to his hit tool, power, defense, arm and speed. In 136 games for the Cubs, he hit .266/.377/.464 with 22 homers, 25 stolen bases and a near 1:1 walk-to-strikeout ratio (87 walks and 88 strikeouts). Teams view him as a complete player who will be a threat to hit 30 homers and steal 30 bases every season…. Contract prediction: 10-years, $427 million,” he wrote.
